The covert agents at Autospies.com have been known to use the term “exclusive” a bit gratuitously but this time they mean it. Agent Lee, an Autospies correspondent in Japan has uncovered what appears to be a brochure of the new RX. Making its debut in Los Angeles next month the new RX receives its design inspiration from the recent LF-Xh Concept. Although the same overall body shape is retained, the RX gets larger dimensions giving it 7 seat capacity. At launch the engine line-up which includes the 3.5-liter V6 will stay largely unchanged but further down the line we should see the introduction of a 400 horsepower powerplant. Production for the new model will commence in late December before going on sales early in 2009 as a 2010 model. Please see Autospies source link below for many more photos! LA Auto Show 2008 will be the scene where the new 2010 Lexus RX is seen for the first time in a world premier moment. After a number of spy pictures, videos and leaked images, we will finally witness the rebirth of this best-selling SUV in the metal, no plastic covers, no anti-spy security. Two models, RX 450h hybrid and RX 350, are the ones gunning for the spotlight. A number of other cars from Lexus are expected too, starting with the IS Convertible (already a Paris debutant) and also joined by the 2009 LS 460 and LS 460 L all-wheel drive (AWD), the only sedan in the lineup appropriate for looming Stateside winter. The IS Convertible comes in IS 250C and IS 350C choices, given 2.5-liter 204hp and 3.5-liter 306hp V6s respectively. Roof mechanism is a three-piece aluminum suit that speedily relieves roof of its duties, transforming the IS into an instant topless wonder. Tune in on November 19 to see all these desirable cars right here. |

At the Lexus stand during the LA Auto Show today two new RX cars were unveiled. The first is an all-new RX 350, the second a new RX 450h, the latter being a hybrid as denoted by the "h". RX 350 comes with a 3.5-liter V6 gas engine producing 275hp, up from 270hp in the current car. It's mated to a sequential 6-speed ‘box in both FWD and AWD, with the latter featuring Active Torque Control AWD system which optimizes torque for all driving conditions. For the RX 450h powertrain is very different. Being a hybrid it also uses the 3.5-liter V6 gas engine which runs on the Atkinson cycle with a new inverter for a system power output of 295hp. Twenty seven more horsepower than the previous/current model, plus more efficient. These efficient gains are as a result of, among other innovations, exhaust-heat recovery system that reduces engine warm-up time and an exhaust-gas recirculation setup that lessens engine pumping losses. The RX 450h's hybrid system allows for regenerative braking to charge the battery better, for longer running times. 4WD is not permanent; it only kicks in when needed. The rest of the time, which is normal driving conditions, the car is in FWD mode. First-for-Lexus technologies for a greater experience in the RX cars includes a Hard Disk Drive navigation system with a "Remote Touch" controller, voice recognition, XM satellite radio and other cool gadgetry stuff. A class-leading 10 airbags form part of the safety package, so does wide-angle side view monitor and rear-view camera for a bump-free reverse session. |
