Audi Launches Lengthened A4L Exclusively for China

Audi Launches Lengthened A4L Exclusively for China | The Daily Luxury News Blog from Luxury-Insider.com

Audi is targeting a larger piece of the Chinese market by introducing a long wheelbase version of the A4, a move similar to what they have previously done for the A6 back in 2000.
The extended Audi, called the Audi A4L, will line up in China’s premium B segment, and will roll out of Audi’s plant in Changchun, China.
Measuring 4.76m, the Audi A4L has a wheelbase that is six centimeters (or 2.36 inches) longer than the standard A4. All that additional length will provide more legroom in the rear passenger compartment. In addition to being stretched, the Audi A4L also has a chassis that has been specially tailored to handle the rugged roads in China.
Powered by a 180hp 2.0 TSI or a six-cylinder 3.2 TSI outputting 265hp, the Audi is expected to make its debut at the Guangzhou Motor Show on November 18, and will land in showrooms across Chinese dealerships come January 2009.

Any side profile pics? I think a stretched A4 will look funny as hell. But then, the Chinese seem to have a thing for rear space and is an extremely important market for VW / Audi.

To say that I love this engine would be an understatement. What a car the A4 3.2 is!

The 6 cyl 3.2 is just an FSI engine right. Don't think its a turbo.

The Chinese are usually short in terms of height, right? Then why a longer car, and specially for China?

do you really think so? 2.36 inch is not very long is it,i mean 2.36 inch will not significantly effect the asthetics

That like the length of a ciggy pack. Wonder if its even worth it.
I say get a short driver and ask him to pull the seat all the way front.

i like the idea.

The A4 could do with a little more space in the back, and in addition if you can save a few bucks at the pump, then why not!

Why does only china get the long wheel base versions! Even the 5 series come in a extended wheel base version only in China.
And to the best of my knowledge the Chinese are pretty short. These versions would work well in India too as most luxury cars are chauffeur driven. But no car marker has had the courage to launch one.

Thats because Chinese luxury market is much bigger than ours. BMW sells more 7 series in China than Germany. Its their largest market for 7s after USA.

I believe so. Even Japan is a huge market for BMW, that's quite an achievement to be a winner in a country that thrives to a large extent on automobile manufacturing.
