Like GTO said, the japanese are doing a great job in the US. This means that the americans are not able to manufacture theirs cars as efficiently. The lack of appeal of their products is also a problem.

During the oil crisis of the late '70s, pple started driving japanese cars due to the high efficiency. Because of government policies, the japanese thought that it would be more beneficial to produce cars in the US rather than export them. Now again, the japanese are gaining in sales due to high prices. In europe too Ford is not faring as well it used to a few years ago.

A lot of people here may not like to hear or accept this, but the Koreans are also doing a lot of damage to the amercian car makers. Also taking more of the European pie now...

Size aside, I think that Hyundai is way superior to the mighty GM. In fact, its GM that is going the korean way i.e. selling on price alone.

GM not only sells on price, they also sell on the so-called after sales customer service, and they keep trumpeting about how they keep making serveys about the type of cars they should make. This is one of the very american characteristics that Bob Lutz had attacked once.
