Personally I strongly dislike the looks. No doubt about it's offroading credentials though.

Mercedes G-Class ME sales up by 139 percent!

Mercedes G-Class was originally a military vehicle ordered to Daimler by the Shah of Iran in who was a major shareholder of the company in 1970, but some day Mercedes decided to tart it up a bit and sell it to civilians! And the result was a car which has remained unchanged during its 30 years of presence in the market and everyday became more and more popular. It’s no wonder that in the past May, Geländewagen’s sales went up 139 percent in the middle east.Specially the G55 AMG is hugely popular here. In no other car you get this sense of luxury, power, heritage and coolness. It is an exceptional vehicle.

Dubai – Despite a sofetning of sales for SUV’s across the Middle East region, Mercedes-Benz reported today that its iconic G-Class continues to be as popular as ever – in fact more so.The G-Class, which is 30 years old this year, celebrated with May deliveries up a massive 139 percent over the same period last year.

Since January 2009, 445 G-Class vehicles have been delivered to happy custonmers across the Middle East and Levant. In fact so popular has the G-Class been this year that its May deliveries figure of 259 is higher than that for the first five months of last year which was 186.
“With its striking appearance, the G-Class continues to be one of the most coveted vehicles of its type on the market,” said Frank Bernthaler, Director, Sales and Marketng, Mercedes-Benz Cars, Missle East & Levant. ”
The G-Class has become an automotive styling icon and continues to emerge victorious in reader votes across the world. It represents the gene pool for the Mercedes-Benz SUV family, which, with five models, is the largest range of luxury SUVs available in the Middle East & Levant.
