McLaren F1 coming back..!!!

Source:Topspeed

McLaren has been hinting at offering a full range of supercars for a while, but now there is some real exciting news: it’s working on a successor to the McLaren F1. When the original F1 debuted back in 1992, it was the fastest and most expensive car in the world. It’s 240 mph top speed held the production car record until the Bugatti Veyron beat it in 2005 (then the SSC Ultimate Aero beat the Veyron.)
Now a source within McLaren told Autocar, “We have just started looking at doing another F1. It is a clean sheet design.” So will the new F1 try to regain its spot at the top of the supercar mountain? All we can guess right now is that the BMW-sourced V12 in the original will be swapped out for something from McLaren’s new partner Mercedes. A likely candidate is a reworked version of the 6.3-liter V8 that’s already in service in cars like the SL63 AMG and the new E63 AMG.
Unlike the original F1, the new one will likely be more conventional. There were only 106 of the first F1s build over its seven-year life cycle, and only 64 of those were intended for road use. For McLaren to break even on this new car, it will likely have to raise the production numbers and maybe even forget about the gold engine lining.

Gordon murray is working on two importnt projects right now.Firstly he is creating a chaep ,small city car ( T25) with revolutionary materials and innovative manufacturing process to make the process more environment friendly.Secondly he has stated that these technologies would also go into the making of the succcessor of Mclaren F1(P11).He has clearly stated that this car is not going to me about Horsepower or top speed, and in all probability HP is expected to less than the 600 odd bhp of the earlier car.

Come on!
Just a V8???

Atleast a roaring V12 would've been the choice if not a 16! We want an icon, not just another super car!

The V8 has its own limitations now. The latest E63AMG produces around 517 bhp., similar car from Audi produces 579 bhp ( IIRC ). May be it can go upto 600 with Maclaren using supercharger/turbocharger.
But I feel they must go in for V12 from Merc range, i.e. the 612bhp V12 from S-class AMG. They can take it to 700bhp with various add ons.
If they are not able to come up with a car around 700-750 bhp, then this car is not good to even think of replacing F1.

one must not underestimate a V8. for the record merc engines are very supercharger friendly, i mean they are built that way. comparatively Beemer engines are turbo friendly. its something to do with their cylinder dimensions.

i don't think it will be that difficult for Mclaren to develop a merc 750bhp V8. But yes the F1 replacement should be a V12 which has been tuned by various tuners to be used in the fastest sedans in the world (read Brabus CLS Rocket).

Anyone who is thinking along such lines during these troubled times must be totally loco.

Dont get me wrong, I am all for pushing the limits. However there's a time and place for everything - now isnt that time, unfortunately.

McLaren's back!!!!!!

McLaren have finally announced that the successor to their McLaren F1 car is going to be launched in 2011. It is codenamed "P11" and is expected to cost around $250,000. It is going to be a two-seater.

Unlike the F1 though, this will not be limited production, but full-blown production-for-sale. At the moment, details of the P11 remain sketchy, but the supercar will feature a cab-forward stance, retractable rear spoiler and a flat underbody. McLaren has built 36 prototypes so far.

Meanwhile, Ron Dennis is going to stop all involvement with the F1 team to concentrate on the sports cars business.

Change the title of thread..

With the title of this thread, I thought that Mclaren are back to the winning ways in the F1 competition going on.
