The headlights are from Peugeot. The overall design has lost the fluency it had before. When will Koreans learn not to copy. The current Sonata is also heavily copied from successful CamCord ( I like this word ) due to which Hyundai was criticized. This car again has copied quite a few design cues from others. I expect this car to arrive in India with latest R-series diesel motors.

But again a thumbs down to Hyundai for copy of design. Thankfully Hyundai is not naming this car " CamCord ".

Would it be wise to compare this to the new Genesis Coupe out here? That car also starts in the early $20Ks and goes up with the engine config. Looks pretty decent too. I am waiting for this to be launched and then see which one if more bang for the buck.

New Hyundai Sonata YF coming to India.....Accord/ Laura killer in the making

Next generation Sonata will go on sale in South Korea second half of 2009. It is a totally new model not a facelift of the current Sonata. New Sonata which is codenamed YF is another sedan to follow the coupe style design. Renderings below are based on the new Genesis sedan and spy photos of the new Sonata. 2010 Sonata is very likely the first Hyundai that will be offered with a hybrid powertrain.

Will this car make it to india..... it will come for sure mostly by 2010..... Hyundai looks to expand itself into the premium segment...... good move i must say.....

Seems to be going the Nissan Tean way not sure if it is really coupe like, the last pic looks more photoshoped as entry into rear seat/door will be very difficult for the target market. The real rear pics above it shows the car to be much taller which is an actual picture the last one may just be a CLS type rendering?

Hyundai Sonata to be replaced?

Got this news on a blog:

Quote:
Hyundai, beaming with pride after the its much expected reception of i10 and i20 in the Indian car market, is now contemplating to launch a new car named i40 in India by 2010. The Korean automotive giant believes that the new generation cars would be ideal for the fast growing Indian market.

Hyundai Sonata is likely to be replaced with the Hyundai i40 as it happened in Europe. The new Hyundai i40 can also be treated as the updated version of the existing sedan. The i40 will initially be launched in an estate body style, with a saloon version to follow in 2011.

The i40 is going to be a very sleek and elegant car. It is believed that many of the styling cues seen on the Hyundai Genus concept from the 2006 Geneva show has been implemented on the styling of Hyundai i40. Hyundai i-40 is believed to be based on an all-new platform which will underpin other future Hyundais and Kias.

With this car, Hyundai intends to move from its “Value for Money” positioning, to a manufacturer of "desirable" cars that are high on style quotient. The Hyundai i40 will be launched with its next-gen 2.0 Litre CRDi engine.

The entire range of i-series cars from Hyundai will be rolling into India soon. Hyundai is the second largest car manufacturer in India. Hyundai has been competing in the small and premium car segment with Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors.

I am sure this car is going to do good numbers, since its looks like a rip-off from the Merc S class. & then we all go bashing Indian manufacturers for being copy cats.

1) This car is again a good copy from successful car/s. This time Hyundai has aimed high and borrowed looks from Merc S-class. I appreciate the confidence of Hyundai. The car will come with 2.0 and/or 2.2 ltr diesel R units. Internationally they put up 90 bhp/ltr as specific output. Might be slightly detuned for our fuel.

2) The vehicle does not seem to have originality factor. Just a scaled down version. It might look good i find it unethical to buy this vehicle that is nothing but a good copy. Sometimes to fight somebody with lower standards than yours, one has to fall down to enemy's standards. I think Toyota and Honda must create a carbon copy of Hyundai's cars and sell at a lower price. Then see what happens. Hyundai happens to be one of the lucky manufacturers.

The i40 looks like a smaller version of the Genesis sedan. But the fact of the matter is will Hyundai be able to convince customers to plonk down 13-14 lakhs for the car.
