Hey all,

Was hunting for this thread, but surprisingly did not find it. Found a list which mention the best 15 sports cars ever Heres the list (in reverse order 15 - 1):
  • Chevrolet Corvette 1968 L88
  • Bugatti Veyron
  • Dodge Viper GTS
  • Lamborghini Diablo
  • Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
  • Jaguar E-type Series 1
  • BMW M3 GTR
  • Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII
  • Nissan Skyline GT-R (R33)
  • Pagani Zonda C12 S 7.3
  • Porsche 911 GT3
  • Subaru Impreza STi
  • AC Cobra 427
  • Ferrari 250 GTO
Source: 15 Ever Best Sports Cars

Am sure of all of them but not sure the Lambo Diabolo should be there, I would have replaced it with a Dodge Charger (v less american muscle here )

Cheers,
ac

+1
I think the McLaren F1 should be at the top.
IMO Subaru Impreza doesn't qualify in the list. There should have been cars like Koenigzegg CCX,Ferrari 599GTB and Lambo LP640 too!

I dont understand what they means by "sports cars".

Some of these cars dont even handle well.

hmmm, a very hotly debated topic. till date that list has not been finalised withought a question being raised. anyways the McLaren F1 is the alltime best. period.

And moreover most of the cars in these lists are there not because they were perfect handlers, but because they had a certain character in them which is (as per most auto journos) missing in the sportscars of today.

My list of best sportscars ever:

1. Mclaren F1 : The definitive supercar. Way ahead of it's time, even today, it stays unbeaten in my books.

2. Ferrari F40 : A true Ferrari. Something very mechanical about the F40 that's missing in later sportscars.

3. Porsche 911 : 'Nuff said. Mastering a rear engine layout. Continuous evolution. And useable as well!

4. Nissan GT-R : Just shows how technology can annihilate the competition at a (relatively) value price. A computer driven, but unbelievably quick, car.

5. Ferrari Enzo : The closest, in my books, that a modern F1 car comes to being street legal. And looks that can kill!

6. Mitsu EVO's & Subaru STi's : For bringing sportscar performance to the masses (relatively). And with a certain level of reliability + useability.

7. Lamborghini Countach / Diablo : The most unsporty sportscars ever (what rear view? Driver ergonomics...err come again?). But which teenage petrolhead-in-the-making didn't have a poster of a white or red Countach up in his room?

8. Bugatti Veyron : Sure, it may be all about it's top speed. But that in itself was a heck of an achievement.

9. BMW M3 CSL : Ever heard one? The most perfect M3. You have to sign a disclaimer that states your understanding of its slick tyres being able to perform only in the dry. M-A-D BMW.

10. Ferrari 288 GTO : The reason behind my handle.

Maybe we should look at the top 10 laptimes around Nurburgring. Otherwise everyone has their own list.

I agree, that's one of the best indicators for a good sports car.

How come no one mentioned the konooggissgegegege CCR which held the fastest production road car title briefly?

The list looks pretty consistent to me. Although I'd put the Evo above the Sti.

I think they are missing a few key ones though.
  • Holden Commodore/Pontiac G8/Vauxhall VXR8 - Best value for money
  • Lotus Elise or Exige - The best handling car...period
  • Ford RS200
  • Ford GT40

Where's the LP640?.I think its the best one around. It can kill you with its visual drama, make you fall in love with its aural drama...and then there's the 640bhp V12.This car is the real devil on wheels. And its a Lamborghini.

And then you guys missed out on the Acura NSX.Still considered by many one the best. And also the R8.
