VW Jetta sets Guinness record for FE?

Quote:
The world's most fuel efficient couple, John and Helen Taylor, have broken the current world record for lowest fuel consumption across the 48 contiguous United States averaging 58.82 miles to the gallon.
Volkswagen's All-New Clean Diesel Jetta TDI Sets New Guinness World Record for Lowest Fuel Consumption at 58.82 MPG

25 kmpl? I think the swift diesel and the ikon tdci can beat this record without even trying. Does anyone else share my disbelief?
Anyone wants to break a world record ?

Thats an awesome record . You can add Fiesta diesel, dezire, Logan to that list.
According to the report, they drove a VW jetta TDI fuelled by SHELL ULTRA LOW SULPHUR DIESEL. Any comparison between the above said diesel with the one available here (SHELL Brand) ??

No doubt, its an awesome mileage from the Jetta. We do have many cars that are fuel efficient in our conditions, and am sure that, these cars would be even more fuel efficient in the US conditions.

On my NHC, I do get 19+ on the highways consistently.

err, anyone remember Top Gear's race to Blackpool? VW Blue motion got above 70mpg, Outback got about 70mpg. So what is the fuss here?
Not to mention Indian cars run on poor quality Indian fuel, can also better this figure.

i guess this is a big deal because this is an average mileage of 58 mpg, which includes city + highway driving.

It's also a big deal because the car was driven normally through rush hour, poor weather etc unlike the Fiesta that ACI drove without switiching on the A/c and even the stereo to extract maximum mileage!

The award is for Driving Nationwide with best mileage, and they seem to be best at completing both aspects of the award, i.e. they seem to be happy enough to drive through 50 states (48 in their case) to prove a point and also do it efficiently.

While most Indian Diesel Cars would beat the mileage figure but guess not many of us would want to travel across the USA to prove our point, right?
