F355 Berlinetta + Citroen 2CV = World’s Fastest Deux Chevaux Vapeur.

Before we tell you anything about the Italian racing team that welded a Citroen 2CV body to a Ferrari 355 chassis, we offer this disclaimer: No pristine Ferraris were harmed in the making of what is surely the world’s fastest deux chevaux vapeur.

The incredibly talented and slightly crazy gearheads on the Nimik Rally Team in Como, Italy spent five years building the wild mashup, which tops 180 and stops traffic. The guys are known for racing Citroens, and during a break from their usual hot-hatch hijinks found themselves with a super-clean but inoperable 2CV “Furgonette” van and a wrecked but running F355 Berlinetta.

Faced with so rich a bounty, they did what any true gearhead would do: They combined them into the ultimate sleeper.

The Nimik team calls the car a hybrid, though certainly not in the Toyota Prius sense of the word. Although the body is French, the car is Italian under the skin with the heart, if not the soul, of a Ferrari.

“The chassis of the Ferrari is untouched, due to the fact that we didn’t want to alter any behavior of the car on the road,” team member Nicolò Lamberti told. “It has been mainly a big, big work on the body shell and in its new interior, the engine bay and the cockpit.”

That big, big work took more than 1,500 hours invested over the course of five years. The result is a car that looks like a humble Citroen but sounds like a Ferrari, drives like a Ferrari and hits 183 mph like a Ferrari - though we wonder what the aerodynamics are like at that speed.

“The car is fantastic on the road, as we managed to distribute the weight in the same way of the original F355,” Lamberti told us.

Most people would look at the car and say “Why?” A better question is “Why not?”

“It has been the way to give life to a new special and unique vehicle,” Lamberti said. “It’s a pleasure to see all the people fascinated by the 2CV Nimik when they [see it] passing along the streets.”

But that good workmanship can certainly be put to better use.

DC took the V12 motor, probably, not the whole car.

Re: F355 Berlinetta + Citroen 2CV = World’s Fastest Deux Chevaux Vapeur.

Ferrari says the F12 Berlinetta is its most powerful car to date.

The F12 Berlinetta is powered by a 740-hp, 6.3-liter gasoline direct-injection V-12 engine that emits 350 grams per kilometer of CO2. Compared with the latest version of the 599, the GTO, emissions were reduced 15 percent while horsepower was increased 9 percent. The 599 GTO emits 411g/km and has a 670-hp engine.
