The last time BMW launched the fabled M5 touring, was when it had its great 1992 E34-M5 unveiling. With 340 horses going to the rear wheels and looks of a perfect Q car, it was truly the RS6 Avant of its time. Sadly, the E39 M5 didn't have a Touring version.

But don't expect new head of the M-Division, Bruhnke to sit back and relax. After leaving AMG to join BMW-Motorsport, he heralded several changes. One of them... to re-introduce the M5 in a touring version.

And here it is. Caught testing, the M5 touring shares the same V-10 engine like the sedan and the M6. Expect minimal changes, such as gear ratio changes and torque curve tweaks.

Meanwhile, soccer moms have something to play around with.

Very odd that they made a station wagon out of the E60 M5. Have they done this to the previous M5's also???

Engineers at BMW M envisage the car accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) over the classic distance in well under 5 seconds, the 200 km/h mark being reached in just 13 seconds.
Its exactly the same horsepower like the Alpina B5.

Gordon,

This thread is about the E60 M5 Touring, and not the E60 M5. The readying of the Touring is a big issue, because there hasn't been an M-Touring car since the 1992s.

Also the B5 you speak of, has a 4.4L V8 and not a 5.0L V10, power outputs notwithstanding.
