I like the GMC. On a second thought I might have grown a liking towards any american car which makes me like whatever they make usually. I might be biased.

@jp2u: Is this a concept? if so please avoid posting here as we are just contributing production models. There is a separate thread for concepts.

My issue with the GMC Terrain is that they have gone from this

This one is actually quite cool!!

Weird Looking UV's & MPVs !!-russian1.jpg

From englishrussia.com:

Nowadays SUV’s are very popular all over the world, all major car makes started production of their own all-road luxury cars. The concept behind the SUV is to get comfort of the luxury car but have four wheel drive on big rims so that you can go off the road with the same feeling.

Weird Looking UV's & MPVs !!-russian2.jpg
(from this angle it looks like an Ambassador on steroids!!)

But it seems that in Soviet Russia they had already this ideal car - you can see here a luxury Soviet “Pobeda” (”Victory”) car on the high wheels, and people say it is not a self-made thing (what we know as a custom mod) but was in production in limited edition at the car factory, so it can be probably not only the first Russian SUV but first SUV ever.

After that seriously retro-cool vehicle above, you might wonder what the russians are designing these days...

I know what you are thinking. NO, it's NOT a battle tank!!

It's actually a "luxury SUV" though it does have steel-plated doors and 3-inch window glass!

On a funny note... ok, on a more intentionally funny note, here is the 3-wheeled Reliant Regal van from England that was made famous for always being upturned by Mr Bean in the eponymous TV series.

And here's a video link to Mr Bean's infamous encounters with the Relaint:

Carrying on with the tipaiyya theme, here is another 3-wheeled wonder, only this one has the opposite configuration - with a single wheel at the back instead of the front! The weird thing about this one is that for what is supposed to be a goods carrier, the wheel arch at the back takes up most of the space!!

This must have been even more unstable than the Reliant!

Of course, the Morgan, in its passenger car avatar, has also been immortalized on celluloid, in the Peter Sellers movie 'The Party'

so they've shrunk the UV and made it pointless.

Nissan S-Cargo

Weird Looking UV's & MPVs !!-nissan_scargo_1989_01.jpg

The Nissan S-Cargo is a small retro commercial van manufactured by Nissan. Its name was an amusing double entendre meaning both "Small Cargo" as well as "Escargot", the French word for snail. This was because the styling of the S-Cargo looked a lot like a snail.

Weird Looking UV's & MPVs !!-nissan_scargo_1989_02.jpg

The S-Cargo design was directly inspired by the appearance of the tiny French Citroën 2CV camionette or small truck, even including the single spoke steering wheel. The 2CV was relatively popular in Japan at this time. Its internal workings are identical to the Nissan March/Micra.

Weird Looking UV's & MPVs !!-800pxnissan_scargo_001.jpg

The car was introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1989, and was built from 1989 to 1992 by Pike Factory for Nissan. Approximately 12,000 were manufactured. All S-Cargo's are right hand drive. While initially marketed only in Japan, S-Cargo's have spread as grey import vehicles.

It has a small cult following, in spite of being criticised for looking "toy like". Its rarity, quirky looks and huge signage panels make it an attention-grabbing vehicle. Both McDonald's and KFC have used it for mobile billboard advertising.

Just goes to show sometimes it pays to be 'weird!!'
