Ford Iosis-X Concept

For a much better-looking Ford than the above (in my opinion) see the Ford Iosis-X Concept:

The Concept Car Thread-ford-iosis2.jpg

Ford of Europe's Design team has interpreted the Company's distinctive new 'kinetic design' form language in the iosis X.

Key elements of kinetic design are trapezoidal shapes and three-dimensional forms and the interplay between them. Whilst the inverted grille at the front is the most obvious trapezoidal graphic it appears in many other interpretations throughout the exterior: the intakes at the front, the chamfers at the base of the windscreen and rear window, within the wheels, in the C post kink and the ridges running down the bonnet are all elements of this basic shape.

The Concept Car Thread-ford_iosis_x_6.jpg
The Concept Car Thread-ford_iosisx_328_1024x768.jpg

The interior is dominated by a new 'interlocking bridge' centre console structure inspired by modern helicopter cockpit design. The large console dives down from the instrument panel dividing the front and rear pairs of seats and dominating the interior before dramatically sweeping upwards at the rear and into the roof. An electronic sequential gear change control is fitted in the centre console.

The Concept Car Thread-fordiosisxconcept-int.jpg

Twin glass roof panels flank the central overhead console, and these are complemented by a totally unique new feature - a solid glass floor beneath the drivers and passenger seats which offers a most unusual view of the terrain below.

Hmmm well when you see them side by side, it looks different. But at first look, the similarities like the descedning waist line from rear to front , and the pseudo wheel wells ( rear on the Indigo and front on the Merc), made me think so, not to mention the race car like low stance both have.

The Rolls Royce 200EX Concept

The Concept Car Thread-rollsroyce200xconceptingeneva_2.jpg

The Rolls Royce 200EX is a design study for a contemporary four-door saloon and shows the direction for RR4, a new model series from Rolls-Royce due for production in 2010.

PHILOSOPHY

Experimental models have always played a significant role in the history of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, from the first - 1EX, built in 1919 - to the most recent - 101EX, built in 2006. Unlike a concept car, the experimental models developed by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars have always been fully functioning vehicles, residing in a tangible world of wood, leather and metals rather than clay and foam. EX cars offer designers and engineers the opportunity for real-world innovation and have been used to showcase new components and engineering techniques as well as exterior and interior designs. "Modern automotive engineering is a balance of creativity, innovation and application. 200EX is an opportunity to assess these new ideas", explains Helmut Riedl, Director of Engineering.

The Concept Car Thread-rollsroyce200exofficial.jpg

100EX was the first experimental car unveiled after Rolls-Royce Motor Cars was relaunched under BMW Group ownership in 2003. Revealed at the Geneva motor show in 2004, the two-door, four-seat convertible was built to mark 100 years of Rolls-Royce motor car design and engineering. Just two years later, 101EX was presented, which explored modern coupé design. Both of these cars inspired production models that not only closely resemble their EX progenitors but have also redefined luxury motoring in the modern age.

The Concept Car Thread-rollsroyce200exlive.jpg

Following on from this success, the same group of designers and engineers has created 200EX, itself pointing the way to RR4, a new Rolls-Royce model scheduled for production in 2010. The brief for 200EX? To create a modern, lithe and dynamic Rolls-Royce that bears all the hallmarks of the great cars that have gone before it: effortless performance, unparalleled refinement, exquisite quality and confident design.

DESIGN

200EX has a dynamic edge to its styling and is noticeably less formal than previous models. Its size, style and expression broaden the appeal of the car, making it more appropriate for a wider range of circumstances. "200EX is a touring saloon with more than a little panache and perhaps more bravado than one might have expected from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars," says Cameron. "What you see is a modern car that is immediately recognisable as a true Rolls-Royce, even from angles that obscure the grille and Spirit of Ecstasy. Design elements such as the elevated prow, long bonnet, short front overhang, sharply raked A-pillar and elegant tail give 200EX an air of informal presence - powerful but unobtrusive."

The Concept Car Thread-rollsroyce200exlive1.jpg

The exterior design is dominated by large, uninterrupted surfaces, while finely sculptured horizontal lines add definition and geometric precision. In combination, the upward-sweeping sill line and low-cut roof create a powerful profile. The tapered rear is enhanced by powerful shoulders and flanks that draw in sharply, narrowing as they flow from the rear wings to the tail-lights.

The Concept Car Thread-rollsroyce200xconceptingeneva_1.jpg

The rear-hinged coach doors give the car a natural presence and sense of theatre. Revived in 2003 on the Phantom, this signature feature lends added functionality and style to the design. Opening through a generous 83 degrees, the coach doors offer the widest rear access in the car industry as well as providing the warmest of welcomes to those about to step inside.

The Concept Car Thread-rolls-200ex.jpg

At the front, a pair of LED headlamps flank the latest evolution of the world's most famous grille. "We wanted this to be less reminiscent of the traditional 'Parthenon' style and more like a jet intake," says Ian Cameron. The sides of the intake have been curved inwards and the vanes set back into the opening. It's a more dynamic form that moves on from the design first seen on the Phantom Drophead Coupé.

The exterior of 200EX is finished in Darkest Tungsten, which contrasts with the silver satin finish applied to the bonnet and A-pillar. Seven-spoke, 20-inch wheels complete the visual impact of the exterior.

The Concept Car Thread-rolls_royce_200ex_images_001.jpg

Within 200EX, interior space is filled with natural light, which brings in a real sense of the outside world. However, substantial doors and a high shoulder line ensure that occupants feel cosseted and protected. In the rear, the intimate ambience of the lounge seat is emphasised by its position behind the C-pillar, heightening the sense of privacy.

The Concept Car Thread-rollsroyce200exofficial1.jpg

Naturally, the finest materials have been used. Elegant, frosted lamps and chrome door handles feature, while details include traditional violin key switches, eyeball air vents, opaque dials and refined instrumentation.

The dashboard has been kept deliberately clear; it is spacious in its design and has an intuitive layout. The controls are neatly sculptured, with more important functions emphasised by accents of chrome. The soft light of the instrument panel glows through the familiar black-rimmed steering wheel, which itself incorporates a number of violin keys as well as an ergonomic roller-ball control.

The Concept Car Thread-rolls-200ex2.jpg

The interior of 200EX is finished in supple, natural grain Crème Light leather, with Cornsilk carpets and cashmere blend headliner. The featured wood veneer is Santos Palissander, chosen for its contemporary look and striking grain.

The Concept Car Thread-rolls-200ex3.jpg

"200EX is a modern execution of timeless Rolls-Royce elegance, breaking with some areas of tradition but retaining the core values that make our marque unique," says Chief Executive Officer Tom Purves. "We expect the more informal, agile design to broaden the appeal of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, attracting people who appreciate its fusion of refinement, new technology and contemporary style."

Chrysler 200C EV Concept

The Concept Car Thread-c200cconcept.jpg

The Concept Car Thread-chrysler200c11.jpg

Contemporary design, Range-extended Electric Vehicle drive system and platform for future connectivity

The definitive blend of design and technology, the all-new Chrysler 200C EV concept redefines the idea of responsible mobility with a touch of class and sophistication never before embodied so elegantly in one vehicle.

The Concept Car Thread-chrysler-200c-_9_.jpg

The Concept Car Thread-chrysler200cevconceptlivein2009detroitautoshowimg_8.jpg

On the inside, the 200C EV continues the theme of embracing the future with a highly sculpted and richly appointed environment. The interior is free of switches and levers. All vehicle functions, settings and uconnect features are managed via a panoramic multimedia touch screen, a passenger-dedicated "techno-leaf" and a stowable tablet PC.

Simple and Elegant Exterior Styling

Efficiency is a key element in the design of the Chrysler 200C EV, as its swept-back front end contributes to the vehicle's aerodynamics. The front fascia is a modern interpretation of the winged Chrysler badge, and its distinct grille continues to shape and evolve Chrysler's brand identity. The encompassed grille bars within the front fascia reinforce the sinuous elegance of the 200C EV concept vehicle with its assertive shape and precise execution.

The Concept Car Thread-chrysler200cevconceptimg_1.jpg

The headlamps and taillamps are treated as dramatic sculptural elements on the vehicle and reinforce the organic form and function carried throughout the design theme. Their placement on the far corners of the vehicle help to visually reduce the front and rear overhangs and contribute to the vehicle's efficient appearance. The lower frontal fog lights and rear backup lights are seamlessly integrated onto the surrounding fascia, and are minimized in scale through the use of LED technology. Modern graphic cues, such as the use of a dissipating dot matrix, are utilized throughout the concept vehicle as both functional and visual elements.

The Concept Car Thread-c200.jpg

The Chrysler 200C EV concept vehicle projects a confident stance and proportion with its optimized wheel-to-body relationship. The clean body-side and restrained line work communicate an elegance achieved only when the "less is more" rule of modern design is followed. Simple, modern details such as aerodynamic mirrors and door handles continue the marriage of form and function.

Comfort and Connectivity Define Interior Space

Maximizing interior comfort, utilizing space and creating a connected environment were key objectives in creating the interior of the Chrysler 200C EV concept vehicle. Natural, luxurious, organic materials and modern furniture design served as inspiration for the interior design team.

On the inside, Leaf Green LED lighting and stitching accentuates the organic, clean shape. A combination of Pearl, Graphite and Leaf Green colors combine to create a warm and inviting interior cabin.

The Concept Car Thread-chrysler_200c_ev_in3_09.jpg

Immediately noticeable upon entry is the large screen located on the instrument panel. Starting the vehicle activates the electronic instrument panel that contains an advanced electronic vehicle information center, the next generation of Chrysler's uconnect infotainment system and a compound touch surface.

The Concept Car Thread-2009chrysler200cevconceptinterior1280x960.jpg

The compound touch surface is a touch screen that serves as the hub for the vehicle's connectivity system – a system that offers endless avenues of communication and transforms the interior into a portal to the outside world. It can be personalized to suit different drivers or simplified based on preference. Similar to recently introduced touch-screen electronic devices, the driver is able to move images, select infotainment choices and customize images, backgrounds, mood, volume and lighting by simply touching the screen itself.

The Concept Car Thread-2009chrysler200cevcon19_1600x0w.jpg

The driver and passenger seats, thin in design with a focus on spinal support, are covered in Pearl chromium-free leather and trimmed with Leaf Green stitching, giving the interior a sporty and luxurious look. All four bucket seats can be heated or cooled with individual temperature controls.

The Concept Car Thread-chrysler200cevconcept.jpg

The first-row passenger has access to a techno-leaf that houses personal climate controls and an infotainment system. A simple touch to the smooth glass surface deploys a personal touch screen computer from the glove box. Users can surf the Internet, scroll through their personal media library, schedule vehicle maintenance or send directions to the driver. The compartment located below the techno-leaf is a charging station for personal mobile devices. Electronic devices can be charged by simply laying the unit on the charging pad. Rear passengers have access to a similar charging compartment under the cantilevered front-console arm rest.

ENVI Range-extended Electric Vehicle Technology

Capable of driving up to 40 miles on battery-only power – using zero gasoline and producing zero tailpipe emissions – the 200C EV uses a small gasoline engine and integrated electric generator that produces electricity to extend the driving range to 400 miles.

Venturi Eclectic

THE 1st ENERGY-AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE IN THE HISTORY OF THE AUTOMOBILE

Soaring gas prices, economic crises, wars, omnipresent pollution, irreversible changes in the climate… Our world is going through a period when the stakes in terms of energy form the very basis for worldwide chaos. While admitting that no solution for energy production can be perfect, we must become fully aware of the imperative need to limit our own personal consumption of energy.

The Concept Car Thread-venturieclectic_2007_1280x960_wallpaper_04.jpg

Venturi Eclectic, the first autonomous vehicle in the history of the automobile, opens up a new era in the field of mobility: reserved for daily driving in urban areas, its low energy consumption makes it the most economical environmental vehicle ever built.

The Concept Car Thread-venturieclectic_2007_1280x960_wallpaper_03.jpg

Innovative and astonishing, Venturi Eclectic is much more than a simple vehicle ; it is a production and storage plant for renewable energies, either solar or wind based. Charging of these energies, which is intermittent in certain regions, can also be complemented by electrical recharging.

FUNCTION DICTATES THE DESIGN

Of decidedly original design, this is a vehicle that has no desire to look like other cars which depend on "black gold": priority has been given to integration of the photovoltaic cells which compose its translucid roof.

The Concept Car Thread-venturi-eclectic-int-2.jpg
The Concept Car Thread-venturieclectic_2007_1280x960_wallpaper_01.jpg

Venturi Eclectic thus does not pass unnoticed in traffic: its elevated central driving position offers exceptional panoramic vision and considerable space, for both driver and passengers.

The Concept Car Thread-venturi_electic.jpg

Venturi Eclectic's message is loud and clear: this is not an ordinary car, but an avant-garde way of getting around. Owning an Venturi Eclectic is also a personal commitment: it means changing one's way of getting from one place to another by exchanging one's role as a "consumer" for that of a "producer" and this, in the general interest.

The Concept Car Thread-venturi-eclectic-int1.jpg

It is usual practice to "stylise" a car. In the case of Venturi Eclectic, its contours were born of an approach to design. Its appearance reflects its function.

The Concept Car Thread-venturieclectic_2007_1280x960_wallpaper_02.jpg

Its silhouette pays homage to certain icon-cars such as the Lunar Rover, Mini-Moke and Méhari. Though its technology positions it clearly in the present and, above all, the future.

TECHNOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ADVANCES

Venturi marks a new era in technological history by launching the production of Venturi Eclectic, an urban 3-seater electro-solar vehicle which goes well beyond anything offered so far by car manufacturers of today:

1 st vehicle powered by renewable energies;
1 st solar production vehicle (2.5 sqm of photovoltaic cells);
1 st vehicle that can be directly recharged with a personal wind turbine;
Venturi Eclectic is thus the vehicle with the least possible impact on the environment.

Unlike other vehicles which are not used for over 90% of the time, Venturi Eclectic takes advantage of moments of immobilisation to store energy in its batteries ; contrary to a petrol tank, this energy reserve remains available for other uses. It's well worth betting that one day, and at national level, this could comprise a considerable reserve of energy which could compensate for breakdowns in the production of electricity as already seen, for example, in California.

Available with last-generation NiMH (NIV-7) batteries (liquid cooled), Venturi Eclectic offers a range up to 50 km at a speed of 50 km/h (electronically restricted), which suffices largely to cover daily movements in urban areas.

The share of solar recharging is approximately 7 km per day of exposure

The Concept Car Thread-venturieclectic_2007_1280x960_wallpaper_05.jpg

When using electricity, a full recharge requires 5 hrs using a standard connection (16 A).

The Concept Car Thread-venturi-eclectic-3.jpg

Finally, as an option, Venturi Eclectic can be recharged with one or more wind turbines, fixed either on the roof of the vehicle when it is stationary, or to the ground with a specific mast. In this case, the share of recharging is approximately 15 km per day in windy areas.

Ya the Lambo design is obvious. In fact it was said in Top Gear that when the design was decommissioned, BMW was afraid the designs/hardwares/prototypes would be sold to scrap so they stole the design from Lambo factory to save it LOL!

They look quite big in relation to the size of the vehicle itself, but unless you think the model posing beside it is one of those Amazonian women of mythical proportions, I would say they are normal sized wheels on a tiny-sized SUV!

Ford Iosis Concept

Here is another in the Iosis series of concepts from Ford:

The Concept Car Thread-iosis.jpg

The Concept Car Thread-iosis5.jpg

The Concept Car Thread-iosis3.jpg

The Concept Car Thread-iosis2.jpg

The Iosis concept car embodies Ford of Europe's new design philosophy, according to the company. Front and rear gull-wing doors are among its more striking design elements.

The Concept Car Thread-iosis12.jpg

The Concept Car Thread-iosis10.jpg

The Concept Car Thread-iosis9.jpg

Exterior

Exhibiting an Aston Martin-like profile and greenhouse, the Iosis looks the part of a high-performance sport coupe and effectively conceals the fact that it has four full-size doors. The concept's grille is fairly ordinary and features thin, chrome, horizontal bars, but the lower air intake below is much more aggressively styled. Cameras are installed in place of side mirrors, and aluminum wheels measure 20 inches in diameter.

The Concept Car Thread-iosis4.jpg

The Concept Car Thread-iosis8.jpg

The Concept Car Thread-iosis7.jpg

The Concept Car Thread-iosis6.jpg

Interior
The Iosis' gull-wing doors are made of carbon fiber. The design allows the iosis to go without the traditional B-pillar, which allows greater entry and exit room. Analog gauges are installed in the instrument cluster, in addition to an LCD screen that can display navigation system information or images from the car's camera network. The seats are made of aluminum and rubber.

The Concept Car Thread-iosis123.jpg

In contrast to the Iosis' silver exterior color, the steering wheel, seats and door panel inserts are accented in bright orange. Memory sticks can be docked in the center stack, and Ford envisions this type of technology serving as a way to store seating, audio and other preferences.
