Looks like an Accord, but the headlights do remind me a little bit of Mondeo.

Absolutely!

Seems good on paper, but, Mercedes have to really make it count this time. On pure merit, the current S Class has been beaten by its rivals.

I love it!! This is Mercedes upholding the S Class name! I was worried after seeing some radical spy shots before, but this seems nice and understated.

This car actually looks good. The undisguised image which is shown in Pink will obviously not make any car look good. Imagine that same colour on a Ferrari and think what will happen . And Aditya, the S-Class has beat all its rival in its class. I don't know where you seem to get that from but in every test I have seen the S has come over the 7, A8, XJ, & even the quattraporte.

no grim, atleast in US its hasnt..

LS430 keeps topping the best luxury sedan with XJ and A8 coming on top off and on..
and i know i would prefer a 7 before an S myself at the moment..dont know when they really release the new S..

When the current day S Class was launched, it was more than a cut above the rest of the bunch. Infact, it remained so for many years. The BMW 7, Jaguar XJ, Audi A8 and Lexus LS would be bought only by loyalists who put emotions before merit.
Things have moved on now, and the old S has been beaten. One example of such a group test was even discussed on this very site.
Group test
The mighty M5 (E39) was shown the door by the 500bhp Merc E55AMG. But, BMW fought back with the new E60. Merc can do the same in the luxury saloon segment with the new S.

Put it this way, each one would win if

the Audi had a better steering feel, ride and image -
the BMW had better styling (in CAR's test of the 760 vs the 600, it lost out due to this)
the Jag had more space and steering feel - this car runs the S classs close - if only they market it better
the Quattroporte had better shift quality
the Lexus had better road dynamics and driver appear

Merc's party trick is that it does most things well, not necessarily the best in class for each parameter but the final optimisation is what wins at the end of the day !

Hey Aditya you are looking at the wrong way. If you have a look Mercedes removes its Car supposing in 2000. Well then BMW removes its car in 2002. With 2 years of research and all and they will definitely try to beat the current Merc. And by the way the S has beaten the 7 in most respects. The comfort level, driving pleasure and peformance.
