I belive it can easily retain that title and become even more popular.

There is No doubt as the car improves, it surely is going to appeal to the younger generation much more.

i think the brand name Mercedes Benz is going down coz of many problems so even though the New S-Class looks good will not be the best in its class and BMW will Lead the market with the new 7series which is under development

which new 7-series.that is still atleast 2-3 years away.and the Mercedes S-class is still the world leader in luxury saloons with more than 30% share of the market even in its last year(for the current model) of production.Mercedes enjoys a industry unmatched brand loyalty of 90% +.
Our Mr.GTO is a very good example of this.

and secondly it is not a question of leading the market,BMW has never had the honor of one of its cars being called "best in the world" except maybe the previous M5 in its class.

Retain its crown as the world's best car? I think you should be saying "regain its crown as the world's best car" or "retain it's crown as the world's favourite luxury saloon". Like the saying goes, "to each his own". I firmly believe, the Mercedes S Class is not the world's best car at the moment. It certainly was when it was launched and that was many years ago. It continued to be that way for a long time. At the moment, it has been matched and surpassed. I won't pass any judgement for the time being. After it's launched, let's see how it matches up against the competetion, let's hear ownership reports and then decide.

Dude, please dont put it on brand loyalty. I went back to Mercedes because they offered to replace my old C180. Its not like I paid for a new car.

Anyways, this thread is over a year old and irrelevant since the S Class has now been launched.
