IMHO, the idea of the MP4-12C is not to outspeed/outbrake their F1, but to design, build and sell a streel legal and street friendly car, which you can also take out to a race track for one of those weekends. It is consciously-deliberately designed not to appeal to the Lamborghini and (possibly) to the Ferrari loving crowd. Its 'not in your face' styling, Monocell carbon fibre technology, brake steer and other not so obvious technology inputs is to attract a different buyer, possibly a more mature set who do not consider top speed as the most important criterion, but would consider speed, acceleration, driving dynamics, 'quieter/subtler' styling, some comfort and ease of use overall to purchase and enjoy in a contemplative manner.

If McLaren have considered the year of launch on the basis of market forecasts on when the recession will end, kudos to their thinking and planning.

I am curious about Monocell and brake steer - any links to these two technologies?

Regards

McLaren unveil supercar to tackle Ferrari in the auto market"

McLaren Automotive managing director Antony Sheriff said cars would be sold in every major market with 35 dealers to be appointed in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia.
The Middle East was expected to account for 10-20 percent of sales with waiting times globally expected to be around a year. Some 300 new jobs will be created at McLaren and more with suppliers.
Dennis put the maximum cash investment in McLaren Automotive at between 670 to 750 million pounds with a target of reaching "true profitability" within four to five years and capturing four percent of the market within the segment.

Lost the one unique feature of the Mclaren that i liked.

You mean the centre seating position of the F1?.Well mclaren maintains that this is not a succesor to the F1,its a cheaper supercar, not the hypercar that F1.I would prefer that the centre seated position stays with the F1,that was its legacy.

Sorry ,am ignorant on Mclaren.
I thought the F1 was the only road model of Mclaren(along with the merc SLR),that's why i left the F1 model name.

Nice looking car there, but i personally think McLaren has taken a pretty long(wasteful) break from the scene that they couldn't relate with the current supercars we have now. Infact, it still looks like a concept to me and when i hear of the McLaren, nothing but the F1 comes to my mind. And such a confusing name which in itself will take a while to get used to. eh

Nothing, head turning, neck breaking going on in there. Why would i buy such a car when i can have a Lambo or Ferrari or even a Maserati which can give on-lookers a instant bleeding from their eyes ? Anyday !

The interior is confusing me a lot, where on earth are the seats ? something wrong with my eyes ?

Re: Revealed - 2011 McLaren MP4-12C

McLaren has finally slapped a sticker on its first road car in nearly a decade and to get behind the wheel of the all-new, carbon-fiber tubbed MP4-12C you'll need $229,000.

As expected, the 12C's sticker is right in line with the primary competition from Ferrari and Lamborghini, with the 458 coming in around $225,000 and the latest Gallardo LP-570-4 stickering for just over $237,000.
