5th Generation Toyota 4Runner launched.

Hello All,

Its almost a month now since the 5th generation 4Runner has been launched in States and very soon coming to Canada.
I am seriously looking into upgrading from my Honda Accord to this SUV.
The north american version doesnt come in Diesel
I guess its called Surf in Japanese market and comes in diesel. Ahhhhh how much I wish they would have lauched it in diesel in NA.
I guess its one step above Toyota fortuner in Asia.
What you guys think of it as compared to fortuner?

It comes in 3 trip level
SR5 - Base model
Trail - For extreme offroading experience
Limited - Leather + comes with all bells and whistles

I am planning to go for a Trail edition and then upgrading the interior to leather aftermarket.

I somehow liked the earlier generation design. The headlights & tail lights on all the SUVs (Sequoia,4 Runner, Highlander) all seem to be jutting out and a bit out of place, IMO.
This one reminds me a bit of the Isuzu Rodeo!

Yo said it Nitin. Rodeo and the Nissan pathfinder from so many angles. The older one was so much better.

They are keeping the same price as the 4th generation. $36,800 to start with.
Dimension wise this is bigger then any previous 4Runners.
Its just a matter of time, we will grow on this one. Personally I am just dying for its looks.
In person it has killer looks.
Check out the videos on youtube. Rodeo and Pathfinder don't even come close to this.

Looks like an unfinished design. IMO older generation was better.
This one looks mean though!

OP,You cannot go wrong with a 4runner. We have (wife has) a 3rd gen 2002. Has been running great. Our dog loves the rear window that can be rolled down completely (hard to find this feature on other SUVs).

In Calif. diesel is usually hard to find, and expensive compared to regular gas. So works out just fine. The v6 is quiet in idle, but comes into life when gassed. Easy to carry 4 bicycles, & camping gear. Be sure to get teh runing board and the tow package, you can haul a lot, boat, camper, u-Haul moving/ storage etc if needed.

I just like it where they put the 4*4 control on the top, close to the rear view mirror.. Not sure if its only in the trail edition. It gives you a feeling of flying a plain

The face has a lot of similarities with the Mitsubishi Outlander, the headlights especially.
Overall the vehicle looks good.
I want to see this in Indian market as the next Fortuner.

Please correct me if I am wrong but, AFAIK, Fortuner and 4 Runner are different. They don't share platform.

I think they are connected by the Hilux roots - they probably share a platform or are very slightly tweaked to be different. Of course there is 4runner diesel etc. In the US there is only a 4.0 V6 petrol (there used to be a v8 option I think, that they dropped).

That's what I am trying to understand. Fortuner, Innova and Hilux are based on IMV platform. But didn't find any information on 4Runners platform.

The front looks fugly. Whoever approved this design must be blindfolded.

The headlights remind me of Lancer and Outlander. The grille design reminds me of Chacha Chaudhary's mustache.

The original 4Runner had Hilux roots. Nowadays 4Runners are based on the Prado platform, not the IMV one.

And they are still cheaper compared to Fortuners in India
