They have intergrated design elements from the VW UP! concept and its derivatives( space UP).The small grille area could suggest it to have an electric powertrain.Looks neat, hopefully they will make it cheaper too.

The car looks good, but as others say, it cannot be termed the beetle as there has been a paradigm shift in its character and it is hard to associate the name beetle with this one (after having seen the earlier version).

Looks like a cross between a Fiat 500 and a VW Up. Not a bad effort.

Where is the Bettle?

This looks more like a Fiat 500 sedan with a VW logo.

The designer has done a good job but I feel they shouldn't call it Bettle.

Re: 2012 VW New Beetle

Doesn't look too bad IMO.They've tried to keep some sort of family resemblance up front, but could have done away with those trademark VW mirrors though! The car somehow looks more grown-up and has lost its character in the process.

Looks good; a little edgy - But the name 'Beetle' just dosen't go with this design

Re: 2012 VW New Beetle

For me this beetle has the 'wow' factor. It sure looks classy and catchy. The work of the edges in the all round curvy body adds a bit of modernity to the design. Tail light cluster is a nice change. A nice upgrade to a cute life style vehicle!

Re: 2012 VW New Beetle

I think I can be convinced to drive this beetle - in Black.

It's edgy but I think VW wants to market this car to men and women.

Re: 2012 VW New Beetle

Nothing like a beetle here! Curves are gone :lol

The front looks inspired from the Punto Evo & those wheels are bluntly copied from the Fiat 500!

Re: 2012 VW New Beetle

The lower half of the car does have some element of porsche.
While the top half definately resembles the beetle.
Have not seen the back end but i think it looks pretty beetle to me.
The front is the new design face of VW, thats where they have made a big mistake and ruined the exclusitivity of the beetle.
They definately are aiming this one at both men and women.
Just hope the standard flower pot is ommited from the package. Yikes!

Re: 2012 VW New Beetle

The current Beetle has not exactly been a big success so however much we may love it's looks it simply does not translate into sales that can be said to be substantial enough for the segment in which it plays.

This implies a major change in the looks and other aspects was on the cars.

The newer Beetle featured on this thread does look fresh, it has influences of the Prosche, the UP Car theme, the current Beetle, the Fiat 500 even, and in the intakes on the side even the nano .

I like the look of the new Beetle but the Fiat 500 and the mini are now in the same league in the looks department due to the conformation to standard design practices with the new Beetle.

For someone looking to stand out the current Beetle is a better bet. It looks like in time the new look will merge the the background automotive landscape.
