2012 VW New Beetle

2012 VW New Beetle to get More Interior Room

The president and CEO of Volkswagen America, Stefan Jacoby, has revealed new details about the 2012 Beetle.

During a German press event, Jacoby said the Beetle will be "more of a halo car" with improved packaging and additional interior room. He commented that number one complaint about the current model, besides the dated styling/platform, was the miniscule rear seat.

Jacoby also believes the redesigned Beetle has a "great opportunity" to surpass the limited sales-success of the current model (only 26,477 units were sold in the US last year). To this end, Walter de' Silva has promised the Beetle's styling "will be a big step" forward.

This somehow reminds me of some of the typical European cars, like the Punto.

That greenhouse looks like the old car, which I felt was the worse part esthetically it made the car look disproportionate this one seems to have the same set up leads me to suspect it may be the same frame just with a higher waste line as in side windows being less taller than before

That's an OK looking car, but it certainly doesn't feel like the beetle. Agree with Ayan here, it's lost the charm of the older gen model.

Edit: Just had a look a the VW Up concept revealed at the Frankfurt Auto show. The bumper treatment is almost identical.

it looks so ugly. the current one is good. each and every VW car is either getting the UP type front styling or the golf type nose which is plain and simple boring!!

No problem with that, considering that the first beetle was designed by ferdinand porsche himself.

I never understood the world's fascination with the Beetle, so a new model doesn't really excite me. But, the 2012 does look more modern and is definitely an improvement over the current one

Cant call that a Beetle! Even the alloys are from its stable mates. They killed it neatly!

They could probably sell these models more than the newer ones in the Indian market.

Slowly the Beetle charm is dying out, but cant help things need to move on with changes.

Agree with Pavan, I would still prefer the old one, I think speedy has one in mustard color. I saw the same in Pune early last year, not sure whether it was Speedy's.
