Just as the R35 vs Zr1 battle had reached the sub 7:30 bracket, the Gumpert Apollo raised the bar even further with a lap time of 7:11.57.

The car feels so comfortable even on this relatively bumpy circuit. The ease with which it accelerates, brakes and corners is impressive.

Gumpert also did break the Top Gear track record also, beating Zonda F.

Gumpert beat the Ascari A10 to go to the top.

Very smooth driving. Who's the driver? Sabine Schmitz?

A quick google reveals the driver to be 26 year old Florian Gruber. It looks like the fastest production road legal car around the Nurburgring is still the Radical SR8 at 6:48. I don't know why Gumpert is claiming their time to be a record
