Apparently the LF-A will cost 375k and production will be limited to 500 cars. Lexus expects to lose money on each one sold.

More than the badge, the LF-A just doesnt have the appeal. The design isn't sexy enough to justify the price tag IMO. Like GTO I was hoping for some competition for the GT-R.

i agree with khanak. it looks ugly, boring and too japanese type. with that price tag there is nothing exciting about it. i would still stick with the supra. what a car!!!

here is another link to the v10 scream at 9000 rpm!
Quote:
That's a pity when you hear the 72-degree 4.8-liter V10 blasting past its 9,000 RPM redline. As evident in the video last week, the engine's exhaust note is muted and a bit of bore inside the cabin. But outside, running down the front straight of the Miami-Homestead Speedway, it sounds like an industrial hairdryer mic'd through a bullhorn. The aural cacophony and prodigious output of the 1LR-GUE V10 is partially thanks to Yamaha, which helped develop the engine for Toyota. But the collaboration didn't just net 552 horsepower at 8,700 RPM and 354 pound-feet of torque at 6,800 RPM. Yamaha tapped its musical department to tune the intake and exhaust tracts, resulting in a decidedly un-V10 soundtrack. It's not quite an F1 blare, but it's not far off, and below 3,000 RPM, there's no hint of the potential underneath and none of the unbalanced rattling found in truck engines modified for track duty.

New Lexus LFA revealed: 4.8 V10, 550 bhp, 0-100 in < 4 sec-lexuslfafd_39.jpg

In an effort to create exclusivity, buyers of Lexus's LFA "supercar" must be approved by the brand; those who don't plan to flaunt the car need not apply.

The $350,000 Lexus LFA was one of the most buzz-generating vehicles at the ultra-luxury "Gallery" exhibit during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this week. Coined the "two-seat supercar" by Lexus, the vehicle sits at the top of Lexus's "F" portfolio, its line of high-end sports performance vehicles.

But simply having the $350,000 to buy one of the 500 LFAs Lexus plans to produce won't be enough: Buyers must be tapped by the company to be owners. People selected to purchase the car will be based on factors such as the other cars they own, where they live, and how often and where they drive. Potential buyers must apply through an authorized Lexus distributor.

Lexus first introduced the LFA as a concept car at the 2005 Detroit auto show. LFA deliveries will start in early 2011, and only 20 of the hand-built cars will be produced each month, up to the maximum quantity of 500. Production starts in December at Toyota's Motomachi plant in Japan, and buyers can customize their cars with various colors and wheel designs, among other options.

On the road, the LFA will be able to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 202 mph, thanks in part to its 10 cylinder, 552-horsepower engine. The car is also made of strong yet lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer, which makes it about 220 pounds lighter than an equivalent aluminum design.

But in the end, the car's success may hinge on its exclusive ordering process and scarcity -- a tactic meant to boost the carmaker's image with the monied ultra-luxury set. While Lexus has built a respected reputation in the mainstream luxury market, the company has yet to successfully penetrate the ultra-luxury and performance car sector and compete with brands like Porsche and Lamborghini.

"We want people who will drive the car, who will be seen in the car," said Paul Williamson, national manager at Lexus College, Toyota's dealer training school. "We want it to be seen on the right roads, in front of the right restaurants and not just being enjoyed by one individual in their private garage."

Mr. Williamson said Lexus expects to sell about a third of the 500 vehicles in the United States.

Not to mention, he was also responsible for the iconic Supra & MR2. Terrible news and an extremely unfortunate accident.

Early reports seem to indicate he was on the wrong side of the road. Autoweek says:

Quote:
Press reports said his car crossed the centerline on a road near the 'Ring and smashed head-on into a BMW carrying two other test drivers. Both BMW drivers survived; one is in critical condition.

Lexus LFA gets its first speeding ticket!

Source: Lexus LFA first speeding ticket by CEC boss Claus Ettensberger [video]

Claus Ettensberger, the CEO of the Claus Ettensberger Corporation (CEC), has been awarded the dubious honor of being the first person to receive a speeding ticket in the Lexus LFA.
While details are limited, Ettensberger took a short test drive and was ticketed for doing 91 mph (146 km/h) in a 35 mph (56 km/h) zone.
If you're not familiar with CEC, the California-based company is major importer and retailer for Brabus, TechArt, Novitec Rosso, and AC Schnitzer.
As we have previously reported, the Lexus LFA is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V10 engine with 552 hp (560 PS / 412kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds, before topping out at 202 mph (325km/h).

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH
the Lexus L-FA.
Total drool matter. Pity it's limited to only 200 units, meaning we can't have dreams of owning it. But still excellent start by lexus. Can't wait to see the next venture by F.

I got to admit, I was never a fan of Lexus, but this car really caught my eye. It is SO beautiful and elegant, although the back kind of reminds me of an Audi R8. I still feel they did a wonderful job with the front though.

Interest in LFA is rising in the recent past. With prices for LFA skyrocketing. Derek Tam-Scott from Issimi attempts to explain why. Lovely video and with that V10 scream i would recommend your best headphones please.

Would you still say the same? Because this car has probably one of the most iconic exhaust notes of all time.

Well, thankfully it was just 100 bucks!

Personally though, I prefer the exhaust note of the Porsche Carrera GT.

Even though it doesn't rev quite as high as the LFA, the Carrera GT sounds just as exotic if not more, especially thanks to its ultra-light single-mass flywheel that allows it to rev quickly and drop just as quickly too, giving the exhaust note the characteristics of one that belongs on a litre-class superbike!

Oh, and by the way. The LFA may be an iconic car, but several units still remain unsold at various Toyota/Lexus dealerships even to this date!
