re: Land Rover's Defender to be phased out in 2015, due to emission norms

Its been a dream to own the DEFENDER one day, a station wagon - for me. I had it as my wallpaper for so long, something that was really close to my heart, its really sad to let it go. It was a vehicle that could outlast its owner. Very sad indeed

Emission rules to end Land Rover Defender production
Quote:
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has said it will stop production of its Defender model in 2015 because it will not meet new European laws on fuel emissions.

The last of the 4x4 models will roll off the production line at its plant in Solihull in the West Midlands in December 2015, it confirmed.

The model had evolved over 67 years of production but it could not be adapted to meet new emissions rules, JLR said.

Re: Land Rover's Defender to be phased out in 2015, due to emission norms

It's time for the curtains to close on the production of the iconic Land Rover Defender. The SUV will gradually be phased out by December, 2015 to make way for an all new model. To pay their respects, Land Rover drew a giant outline of the SUV in the sand at Red Wharf Bay in Anglesey, Wales- the place where the model was first imagined by Maurice & Spencer Wilks in 1947.

Land Rover Defender production ceases

Today, Land Rover pulled the plug on the iconic Defender.

The UK plant which was building the Land Rover Defenders had been in operation for over 68 years. The list of people who have owned this British legend include Sean Connery, Robin Williams and also member of the Royal family including Queen Elizabeth II.

Now, THAT is a TRUE car. Something that could go anywhere.

Do anything.

And never break down.

Something that could be more reliable than a Toyota.

A car that was the TRUEST Land-Rover in every sense.

A car that will be missed. Forever.

But as they say, Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Sigh.

Re: Land Rover Defender production ceases

Well, there is some hope, the Land Rover has promised to deliver a new version of the Defender with better systems having contemporary updates.

Also, the former production crew will work on restoring the old vehicles that they have built.

Sad day for Solihull as the last Land Rover Defender rolled off the production line. It and its predecessors have been built continuously at the Lode Lane factory since 1948.

Re: Land Rover Defender production ceases

Am hoping Tata to start producing defenders in India, as the Defender should fulfill our safety and emission norms for next half a decade or so.

If pitched well it can generate good sales number from our Indian army alone.

Yes, indeed.

I am talking about the older Land Rovers only. They were very, very reliable.

However-the reliability levels have gone down a LOT since the mid-'Nineties.

Sigh.
