LA MARQUE, Texas – A man blamed a low-flying pelican and a dropped cell phone for his veering his million-dollar sports car off a road and into a salt marsh near Galveston. The accident happened about 3 p.m. Wednesday on the frontage road of Interstate 45 northbound in La Marque, about 35 miles southeast of Houston.
The Lufkin, Texas, man told of driving his luxury, French-built Bugatti Veyron when the bird distracted him, said La Marque police Lt. Greg Gilchrist. The motorist dropped his cell phone, reached to pick it up and veered off the road and into the salt marsh. The car was half-submerged in the brine about 20 feet from the road when police arrived.
Gilchrist said he doesn't know if the car was salvageable, but in his words, "Salt water isn't good for anything." He says the man, whose identity hasn't been released, was not injured.
A 2006 Bugatti Veyron was recently offered for sale in Jonesboro, Ark., for $1.25 million.

LOL poor guys, Thats one expensive mistake & if he was talking to Someone then all the best to him/her :D

He got disrtacted with a bird? :Shockked:

Is Pelicon so fast enough to chase the fastest car in the world?

That bird dropped a cell phone?lol:

Could there be a better endorsement for banning cellphones while driving?

According to this link,

Man Sinks Bugatti Veyron in Two Feet of Water | Hoonery & Hooliganism Blog & Discussion at Automobile Magazine

"According to the paper, the Veyron’s 1001-hp W-16 engine “gurgled like an outboard motor” for about 15 minutes before it died."

That engine was running for 15 minutes underwater before it died???? :Shockked:

It could happen guys. My uncle had an accident once trying to swat a fly on his windshield. Proved quite expensive there too.

Yes. Probably so that no water enters the Block/intakes.

Stupid question..............But Cyrus, doesn't the gas pedal need to be pressed to ensure the engine is at higher revvs so as to prevent the water from getting in?? It dosen't mention anywhere in the article that this was done, and i'm sure at normal revs of about 1000rpm, the engine would've died instantly. Maybe this engine revvs higher due to it having 1001 HP :D

Well, I vaguely remember reading something on this. If you keep the gas pedal planted, the chances of water entering the exhaust pipes are slim. The moment you take your foot off the throttle, it creates a back-pressure in the exhaust and that sucks in water into the motor. Though this is a bit irrelevant during circumstances where the whole car is submerged! :D

Aawww. A costly mistake.

That man says nothing is salvagable! Has he heard about Indian Mechanics.

Dude that car can be running full throttle again in 10 mins if the same thing had happened in India.

Read about it this morning, and all I could do is feel sorry for the guy.If he'd seen the yeti or Nessie, it would have been something. But a pelican?

what a mistake! all for a pelican.

btw, I think aatish here at t-bhp (dude who fixed up the x-trail and c-class) has found his next car :D

It wasn't like some hot chick flashed him! What a sore loser... ditched (pun intended) his Veyron for a bird!
