Mahindra Considering buying SAAB?

they do make strange bedfellows, but
Mahindra To Buy Saab? - Saab Is Dead - Jalopnik

I wonder. Mahindra could acquire SAAB for a song compared to what Tata Paid for JLR!

M&M shows some interest in buying Saab

Jalopnik reports that Mahindra is interested in buying Saab. They are citing the source as Anand Mahindra's tweet in this regard, attached below.

If it works out, Mahindra will have access to global distribution network and european manufacturing for a bargain. Mahindra could also further leverage Saab's expertise on Engines and XWD (or what is left of it)

First -Saab is only a brand

engines - Saab developed a two stroke to its name. After that, they used engines from Ford the V4 for the 93/94. The 99, 900 used in effect a revamped Triumph dolomite engine. The 9000 series used a unique engine (not sure if it was re- engineered from somethings else). The 9.3, 9.5 use GM enginess.

Saab lost it when divested from the aerospace division which provided the advanced technology, the eccentricity, out of the box thinking that went into the cars

lets put it this way - I would be happy if these International brands like SAAB are acquired by a solid, strong Indian company rather than a Chinese one.

Spykar has revised it's bid for Saab.

Spyker is too small a company and I really doubt if they are capable of rescuing SAAB from this mess.

M&M wants to get some international exposure like how TATA got with the JLR deal and hence they are trying to get their hands on SAAB, never the less I would really like to see an Indian company own SAAB.

I dont think Mahindra buying a Saab brand & their unit would make sense . Saab is debt ridden & not a so big brand like JLR to have a leaverage

I was also reading where Italian FM had invited TATA & M&M to study if they can buy a Fiat's plant. I guess if TATA or M &M considers that . It makes sense especially for M&M coz they can try manufacturing their products in Europe , as they are already selling their Products in some parts of Europe may be by importing

Uh oh, I see another "Logan" disaster waiting to happen. This time, at another end of the market.

@ Mahindra : Please don't waste your time. Saab has nothing in it for you. Not the brand, not engineering excellent...and surely not your competence in value engineering.

headlines something like this: "Auto tycoon banned from automotive forum".

There'll be more trouble: You may be interviewed by those TV journo girls: "So can you please explain what Team-BHP is?"

On topic, I don't think MM will commit such a blunder; their "global path" is clearly defined IMO, sell VFM SUVs, MUVs, Tractors and maybe in future, heavy trucks.

SAAB has no future, that's why GM is not getting any offers.

About technology yes they do not have much for cars it was never their bread and butter but the cars are built like tanks as Volvo and serve most of the Scandinavia. Rest if Mahindra wants to enter Defence Svenska Aeroplan AB (Saab) is a distinguished player.

Re: Mahindra Considering buying SAAB?

Let me reactivate this long dormant thread ...

Mahindra is in the process of reaching out to the two court-appointed administrators who are overseeing Saab's bankruptcy to possibly buy parts of the carmaker or the whole company, said the people, who declined to be identified because the plans are private. Mahindra has yet to hold discussions with the administrators, the people said. Saab filed for bankruptcy on December 19 after running out of cash.

At least one Turkish company is also interested in investing in Saab, one of the people said. The Turkish government wants the country to have a car brand of its own, and is trying to help a manufacturer take over at least parts of Saab, the person said.
