Among materials of automotive construction around the world, we are acquainted with space age materials different from the conventional pressed steel sheet.

Among these are:But can you imagine that people actually made a car of material that an ungulate would consider edible?

In other words, a car that a pig could eat?

Yes this 1988 Trabant P610S is actually being eaten by a pig.

This model was first introduced in 1964 and produced unchanged until 1991.

It had a smoky 26 bhp 2-stroke 2-cylinder engine and a very noisy gearbox.

The body was made of recycled Russian cotton-waste dipped in a bakelite-like phenolic resin from the then East German dye industry and baked in an oven. The resultant material was called Duroplast.

This material was edible and there were many stories of farm animals like pigs and goats biting into Trabants and eating part of the body. :)

Here it is captured on camera !!!

Talk about biodegradable cars

Ram

Hilarious title and pics!
In the last pic, the swine seems to have nibbled through some part of the roof, unhinged the door in the process as well :-).

Pretty cool what eastern-block steel rations (if at all that was the case) has produced.

Looks like this was inspired from the movie SNATCH.
Thats why the saying never trust a man with a pig farm

Oh my God!!! Last think I would want is to see my door was literally taken off by a gruntin' pig!!!

Here is something that I found on the car, and cattle feeding its parts in Poland :D

Not only delicious food for the Pig but seems very energetic (vitamin filled) food and see the size of the pig !?

actually certain breed of pigs are excellent scavengers their digestive system can digest metals also!!
Not to mention Human Bones (watch this move called snatch :D).
ive seen pigs eat rusted metal(obviously not IRL but video's of it.

a biodegradable car!... well at least some of it...

Imagine it in a place like Bangalore... where most people park cars on roads. One fine day when they come to start the car, they could see that it was skinned and find some manure in exchangelol:

vehicles to be sold in European countries have to face a new norm called as EOL (End of Life) which aims to determine what percentage of the cars aggregates can be safely disposed off or recycled for future use, may be this law must have got inspiration from the above mentioned picslol:

More than the condition of the car, I am rather surprised to see a pig of this size.
The Duroplast must be high on energy and nutritious content for the pig to be so healthy.
Must say if the cars are to be 95% recyclable, they ought not to be a pig or dogs food.

Good God! Look at the size of that pig! :Shockked: Gargantuan doesn't even begin to describe it! What a glutton that swine is!

That aside, nice post Ram! :thumbs up

I think this Trabant was covered for a few seconds in one of the episodes of TG (ofcourse NOT for the same reason though), If I remember correctly James May referred to this car as made out of ' Russian Cotton '.
Here's a pic:
