AFAIK there should be "Line quality" department to assure the quality of assembly process, in each and every stage, if not atleast at the end of line or PDI who are supposed to check the inteference of certain important aggreagtes (safety related which includes brake lines & ABS wiring harness)
So, apparently when Honda recalled it's vehicles in India for faulty engine parts, we had people raving about how brave a move that was and good that Honda was being proactive and all. Refer: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ty-sedans.html

And when FIAT decides to recall vehicles in Europe due to chances of a short circuit in the ABS, all hell breaks loose! The quality dept of FIAT has to be crucified on the spot! Hmmm!

as per the article it has no mention of Punto's anywhere else. they have specified its all within EU.

Recalls seem to have been a routine these days. Toyota, Honda and now Fiat.

Maybe we should add Global and not India recall to the title.

Thats a huge number for India anyway

Talking about the quality concern of fiat, here is one ironical example from my new T-Jet.
You can see the misaligned doors right next to "Quality Car Plant" sticker

Here is one more example

That's very rightly put! I am just relieved that this was not meant for the Puntos in India. I think every company comes out in the open about anything faulty. Playing safe rather than being pulled up by customers.

Chevrolet Cruze recall

General Motors Co is recalling more than 154,000 of its top-selling Chevrolet Cruze cars to check that the steering shaft was properly installed.

Of those vehicles, more than 120,000 cars with an automatic transmission will also be inspected to ensure the transmission shift linkage was properly installed, GM said on Wednesday.

The cars are built at a plant in Lordstown, Ohio and sold in the United States and Canada. The Cruze was GM's No. 2 selling vehicle in April and is instrumental to diversifying GM's lineup at a time of rising fuel prices.

Since these are assembly problems at one plant, do they even effect Cruze in India? I thought Cruze is assembled in Halol for the Indian market

Honda recalls some 2012 Civics on fuel leak risk in North America

Honda recalls some 2012 Civics on fuel leak risk
Reuters / Friday, May 20, 2011 18:22 IST Honda Motor Co's American branch has recalled about 1,500 current model Civic compact cars in North America due to a fuel leak risk that could lead to a vehicle fire, the company and US federal safety regulators said on Friday.
The popular Civic is in short supply in North America because of the aftermath of the March 11 earthquake in Japan.
Honda on Thursday said June is going to be the low point for dealer inventory of the venerable compact.
In the United States, 1,156 Civic were recalled. On Thursday, Honda Canada announced a recall of 377 Civic compacts.
The Civics recalled were assembled from April 21 to May 2.
Honda said that 17% of the US vehicles contain the defect.
Honda Canada said only two of the affected vehicles were sold to consumers. No similar figure was available for US sales.
Honda will notify affected Civic owners by the end of next week to bring their cars to Honda dealerships for inspection, and, if needed, will replace the fuel feed lines free of charge, the automaker said.
A fuel leak could occur if an O-ring that seals the fuel feed line is misaligned, according to a filing with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
There were no reports of fires, crashes or injuries. The issue was noticed on April 29 when a Honda production worker noticed a fuel smell on a new Civic, Honda told regulators.
The fuel line at issue was made by a Honda supplier, records show.
In April in the US market, Civic was the No 3 selling car, behind only the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Accord.

U.S. Toyota recalls some Highlander, Lexus vehicles

U.S. Toyota recalls some Highlander, Lexus vehicles

Quote:
Toyota Motor Corp said it would recall about 45,500 Highlander hybrid and 36,700 Lexus RX 400h model vehicles in the United States, citing faulty transistors in the control boards.
Some transistors in the recalled vehicles were inadequately soldered and could be damaged from heat during high-load driving, the automaker's U.S. sales arm TMS USA said in a statement on Wednesday.
In most cases, the vehicles will enter a fail-safe driving mode, resulting in reduced power.
No other Toyota or Lexus vehicles are involved in the recall, TMS USA said.
The owners of the recalled vehicles will be notified in mid-July and the automaker is currently trying to get the necessary replacement parts, it said.
Earlier this month, Toyota said it would recall 105,784 early model Prius cars, including 52,000 units in the United States, to fix a fault with the model's steering and gearbox.

time for Ford to debut now

BBC News - Ford recalls 1.2m F-series pick-up trucks

Quote:
The recall affects some versions of the F-150, F-250 and Lincoln Blackwood trucks built between 1997 and 2004 - in certain cold-weather states.
It is feared the straps holding the tanks on can be corroded by road salt.
Ford will advise owners with the affected vehicles to take them to a dealer to have the straps replaced.
The F-series has been one of America's best-selling vehicles.
Ford said this defect has caused eight fires, and one injury.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Honda recalling units for fire and rollaway concerns!!

"Honda will notify affected owners of two voluntary recalls in the U.S. in late September 2011.

Honda will voluntarily recall 80,111 CR-V vehicles from the 2006 model year in the U.S. to replace the power window master switch. The design of the power window master switch can allow residue from interior cleaners to accumulate, which can, over time with switch use, cause the electrical contacts to degrade and may lead to a fire in the switch. No injuries or deaths have been reported related to this condition.

Additionally, Honda will voluntarily recall 5,626 CR-Z vehicles from the 2011 model year in the U.S. that are equipped with manual transmissions to update the software that controls the hybrid electric motor. In the affected vehicles, when the gasoline engine has stalled with the IMA battery in a very low state of charge and the transmission in gear, it is possible for the electric motor to rotate in the direction opposite to that selected by the transmission. If this occurs and the driver has not engaged the brakes, the vehicle may slowly roll in an unexpected direction (e.g., backwards when the transmission is in a forward gear), potentially leading to a crash. A software update will add further controls to correct the problem. No injuries or deaths have been reported related to this condition.

Honda is announcing these recalls to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of a recall from Honda. Notification to customers will begin in late September, 2011.

When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers. To this end, in addition to contacting customers by mail, after late September, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles require repair by going on-line ."
