The performance surely is striking. But the looks aint.Lacks that Mercedes attitude. The spoiler looks like and absolute drag on it.Take it off and i would'nt mind driving one.

Yeah, the spoiler is too big for this car and the design of the flare on the wheel arches cud have been better...otherwise its a good looking car...with performance to go.

Nice find Stratos, i was watching some old late 1980s DTM footage the other day, and the 190E was racing fender-to-fender with some BMWs and Alfas, and i couldn't remember the Mercedes model name. Thanks man. It looks fantastic in Black, and that spoiler and those flared wheel arches suit me just fine. I guess they were a limited production run of 500 vehicles for the homologation process right? I think thats what the DTM rules required.

The spoiler may look ridiculous now, but, back in the late 80s (when this car was developed), it didn't. This car is absolutely wonderful and I love it.

The 190 is one of my all time favourite Mercs after the 560 SEL . Small compact and Mercedes ... And the Evo is stunning to behold . Dont think the spoiler is out of place really.

Sad they dont make em Mercs like they used to anymore

This is how DTM and touring cars for the road / homogolation specs should be... Based on pure functionality.. And I love that wing and those brutish flared arches.

There were quite a few fans who would do up (performance and / or cosmetic) their regular 190's to look like this..

More on the car..

To keep competitive in the Group A Touring Car Championship, Mercedes unveiled the 2.5-16 Evolution II at the 1990 Geneva Motor Show. The most radical departure from the standard 190 was its body kit which included an outrageous rear wing, probably the largest ever fitted to a Mercedes four door.
At the time, Group A homologation dictated that the aerodynamic devices of the race car were limited to those on production version. So the Evolution II retained the full competition bodywork including its unusually tall rear wing that was necessary as the regulations didn't allow the wing to impede rearward vision. So, the clever engineers put a cover over the top of the rear windscreen so that the tall wing couldn't be seen.
While the larger wheel flares and front dam did their best to match the rear wing, the interior of the 190E was all business. Opulent wood finishes and leather seats did little to remind the driver that this was competition-derived special. Curiously, a special knob was provided to offer three different ride heights.
Under the hood, nothing was substantially altered from the standard 190 2.5-16, however Mercedes-Benz changed the compression ratio, valve lift, timing, intake tract and exhaust to help the car reach 232 bhp compared to the normal 195.
The chassis was correspondingly upgraded with larger brakes, a harder suspension, 17 inch wheels and the hydro-pneumatic adjustable ride height was left intact.
Over 502 cars were built, and all in a blue-black metallic paint scheme. The changes made to these cars were good enough for Klaus Ludwig to clinch the DTM driver's title in 1992.

This car was actually a sign of the times, the era when Group B league was a reality. There was a madenning thrust for performance giving us names like Cosworth. Cars were made for fun.
