Ferrari 599 Hybrid

Ferrari 599 Hybrid Concept: First Photos Leak on the Web - Carscoop

We've been hearing a lot about Ferrari's Geneva-bound 599 Hybrid concept model for quite some time now, but the Italian supercar maker apparently can't keep it under wraps anymore as the first photos of the prototype model made it onto the web today.
Photos aside, we asked around and our sources gave us some inside information on the hybrid system featured on the 'green' 599 concept model.

The system comprises of an electric motor producing somewhere around 100 horsepower and 137Nm (110 lb-ft) of torque that is attached on the back-end of the rear-mounted transmission, and a battery pack located under the floor.

The extra power is said to compensate for the added weight which is said to be close to 100 kilos or about 220 pounds, making the 599 Hybrid faster than the stock model.

Last but not least, we were told that the hybrid system is still in its infancy stage and will most likely take a few years to be offered on a series production model.

It goes without saying that we'll have all the details on the concept car after its debut in Geneva next week.

Hybrid Ferrari

When you talk about Ferrari, you're usually discussing horsepower, torque and cornering, not C02. But concerns over the environmental impact of all that horsepower and torque have even the most performance-oriented automakers looking at ways to burn less gas. You can see some of the results in the Geneva Motor Show, which recently opened to the media in Switzerland.

Ferrari boasts that this experimental hybrid car has a lower center of gravity -- thanks to the placement of an electric motor and batteries -- than the standard 599. The high-voltage electric motor is connected to a 7-speed Formula 1-style transmission. Ferrari's goal was to offset every kilogram in added weight from the hybrid system with at least one horsepower in additional force, so the 40 pound motor produces up to 100 horsepower.

The matte green finish looks awesome! THIS is the future of supercars. We aren't far away from the time when associating the term 'fuel-efficient' with supercars will not be very rare.

So now even Ferrari's catching up with the green brigade! What's next?! At the risk of sounding an old-fashioned and self-centered purist, I think supercars should run solely on internal combustion.

Very good engineering but, lets pray this is just a gimmick and Ferrari's just flowing with the tide..!
