Geneva Motor Show 2010-leadpologtigenevalive.jpg

Geneva Motor Show 2010-12pologtigenevalive.jpg

When we drove the Volkswagen Polo in Deutschland last year, a few execs mentioned that the automaker was actively considering importing the subcompact hatch into the States. If they ever get up the gusto, the Polo GTI needs to make the trek as well.

Drawing a clearer line to the GTI's of yore than it's biggie-sized brother, the Polo GTI embodies everything we loved about the Mk1: a small footprint, supreme usability and a miserly mill packing a potent punch. In this newest iteration, said punch is provided by a 178-horsepower turbo- and supercharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder putting out an incredibly healthy 184 pound-feet of torque. Those figures aren't too far away from what our beloved GTI produces, and the Polo comes in a few hundred pounds lighter and doesn't skimp on the good bits (top notch interior and the XDS differential).

The GTI is set to go on sale in Europe this summer with a sticker of around £18,000. We figure if we ask nicely (and VW begins building the Polo in North America), we might get a crack at it in the U.S. Then again, we've been asking nicely for the Scirocco for over two years...

Tata has given its new flagship model, the Aria, its European debut at the Geneva motor show. Conceived as a global model, it’s been developed to appeal to European and British buyers and is expected to go on sale here in spring 2011.
Crucially, the Aria has been designed to meet European crash legislation — the company is aiming for a four-star EuroNCAP rating — and is said to be the most sophisticated Tata to date.
See the official Tata Aria pics
However, the car uses a body-on-frame construction rather than a more modern monocoque shell, in order to give the vehicle the robustness necessary for dealing with rural Indian roads. At 4780mm long, the Aria is a similar size to a Kia Sorento.
One engine is available: a 140bhp, 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel coupled to a full-time four-wheel drive system. No official performance figures have been released, although it’s likely that for Europe, more power will be expected to improve the car’s performance.
Tata is considering a 170bhp version, although this would require a new gearbox because the Aria’s five-speed manual cannot deal with that much power. There are no plans for a petrol engine.
Inside, the Aria has a third row of seats and an LCD screen infotainment system, the first time such technology has appeared in any Tata.
Tata has launched an SUV in the UK before; the Safari was available here during the Noughties, but it was never a great success. In Europe Tata currently sells cars in Italy, Poland, Spain and Turkey.

I read that the Tata's have showcased an electric version of the Nano at the Motorshow. If they can get the battery pack reasonably sorted out, I would love to see Reva go bust.

Tata Nano EV!

The Nano EV will use the same super polymer lithium-ion batery as the Indica Vista EV. The electric version of the world’s least expensive automobile has a range of 99.4 miles, short of the Indica Vista EV’s 124-mile range, which is unusual considering the Indica Vista is a larger vehicle.

The Tata Nano EV will make its way to European markets in 2010 with expansion to other markets coming later.

The leggera looks hot and the Apollo looks like a spaceship from the side, nevertheless one of the best sports cars ever made.

I remember seeing in one of the top gear shows that the seat is not adjustable, reason being it affects the COG of the car. Marvels of Engineering!!

From the tuners....

AbT Audi R8
Abt has given the R8 more power as well. Its 5.2-liter V10 is now rated at 620 horsepower, good for a 0-100 km/h sprint of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph. Other performance upgrades include an adjustable sport suspension, ceramic brake system, lightweight 18-inch wheels and Michelin Sport Cup tires.

Ruf Porsche 911
Nestled within the back of Stuttgart's finest, Ruf has managed to squeeze in a 4.5-liter V8 putting out 550 horsepower at its 8,500-rpm redline and 367 pound-feet of torque at 5,400 rpm. The 180-degree, flatcrank V8 is apparently custom designed by Ruf and comes complete with titanium connecting rods, a dry-sump lubrication system and spherical heads. And not only does it meet both U.S. and European emission standards, the whole swap is reportedly 80 pounds lighter than the 3.8-liter boxer-six it replaces.

Hamann Tycoon EvoM(BMW X6)

For the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Hamann brought along its new Tycoon EVO M. And... it's quite bonkers. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 has been pumped up to the tune of 670 horsepower and 576 pound-feet of torque. For comparison's sake, the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce's mighty 6.5-liter V12 produces 670 hp – exactly the same amount as the Hamann Tycoon EVO M. Crazy, no? Oh, also, the mightiest ever Lambo makes 89 lb-ft of torque less than this mental patient Hamann.

We deserve this Polo here! Why do we get lousy 3-pot Polos in India! This isn't fair! At least give us that 1.6 from the Jetta and some nice optional stuff like the 17" wheels and the body kit that I'd seen on a silver Polo on display at the Auto Expo (New Delhi)

Forget the EV, the Nano Europa actually looks very chic and nice unlike the funny, Pokemon Nano that we get here in India. Why do we always get short changed? Especially by our own Tata!?

The Audi R8 looks fabulous! ABT has done a wonderful job in making it look less sedate. I love those wheels to death! The perfect tuner supercar IMO!

And I've indefinitely lost all my faith in Ruf! What's the matter with them? A V8 in a 911? Yeah, why don't we turbocharge and supercharge a couple of Ferraris and Lamborghinis in that case! How about shoe-horning the VAG's W12 motor into the Murcielago?

This is just plain ridiculous! A 911 MUST ALWAYS be powered by a flat-6. Nothing else. I don't care if it's 80 pounds lighter or if it's much better. A 911 without a flat-6 is like Pepsi without fizz! This is rather disappointing.
