1 in 8 Germans is ready to buy a Chinese car according to a survey conducted in Germany!
The good news is 86% of Germans will still buy a German car next. Thank God! That news had me :Frustrati

Yeah the only reason to buy chinese would be the lower price. Nothing comes close to german engineering.

Drifter

Drifter

ofcourse japanes does..

Japs are about engines...for overall better cars i'd go the germans.

Drifter

Lot of them have shifted to Korean too. Kia is becoming increasingly popular.

I have posted this before, and I will post it again :

1960's = No ways will the Japanese ever make it...their cars are too cheap, unreliable and basic in engineering / design.

20 years down the line

1980's = No ways will the Koreans make it, their cars are too cheap, unreliable and basic in engineering / design.

2000's = No ways will the Chinese make it. Their cars are too cheap, unreliable and basic in engineering / design.

Everyone, including me and you, will respect Chinese cars one day. Its far...but not too far away.

I second drifter ,Germans are the best and IMO its may take ages for japanese to come even closer to the Germans engineering .

The funda is simple ....

Engine : japanese

comfort ,build quality ,safety ,sense of security ,status and so on ... : Germans .

Though logical, I am surprised to read this news. At least from whatever I had seen, Germans are very much skeptical of Japanese, or should I say "non-German", cars. But apparently, things are changing.

Majority of Germans prefer Japanese cars, believe it or not, having lived there, I got to experience that first hand, Toyota, Honda and Mazda are the preferred brand. While travelling to NY first time, there was a German doctor sitting next to me on the plane, it was he who enlightened me about Japanese cars in Germany, when I queried what he drives,to my surprise, it was an Accord, this was in the early 80s, I asked him about German cars and he laughed, he told me, German cars were for outsiders who wanted status, Germans being quite practical, they would rather have reliability over status any day. Then when my brother moved to Germany permanently, I had a chance to stay with him quite frequently, and there I saw the use of Japanese cars, even his German wife stays away from German cars.

Is this because the cost-conscious Asian population is much bigger and wide spread ... Just a thought?

a bit off topic: i wonder when indian car manufacturers will reach the position ?.

also what are the brand names of chinese cars?

Actually Maruti swift has proven that Japs can compete with germans now. It got good engine, good safety, good comfort. Though bad lugage space.

Also swift got 4 points for safety from Euro Ncap

And one more thing. Asian countries are on developign stages too and europian countries are fully developed and have exploited their resources. So it may take a little more time to get to them. But Swift is really good.

I read somewhere that there are loads of auto manufacturers in China.

Chery, Brilliance Motors, Jiangling, Gilly (or something like that) are some of the ones I recall ...
