Brutal Porsche 911 GT2 RS with 620 HP

Image can be seen at: Image and specs leaked for upcoming Porsche GT2 RS

Despite Porsche’s best attempt at keeping a tight lid on the upcoming track-minded GT2 RS, a previously trusted VIP guest at an invite only event decided to share a photo and details – ahead of the scheduled May 14th release. The same guest suggested that the GT2 RS will be limited to a 300 unit run, while boasting 620 horsepower.

First posted on TeamSpeed’s forums, and later picked up by The German Car Blog and Autoblog, the GT2 RS has been unofficially revealed for the first time, including some speculative numbers that will even best the Porsche Carerra GT.
According to a TeamSpeed forum member that was invited to a VIP-only reveal over the weekend, Porsche’s next car in the GT2 family will be a 620 horsepower track monster, capable of accelerating from zero-to-60 in just 3.2 seconds.

The GT2 RS is also reportedly capable of reaching 200 km/h (124 mph) “well below 10 seconds,” and from zero-to-300 km/h (186 mph) “well below 25 seconds.” The GT2 RS has also been spied testing on the Nurburing, setting a reported best lap time of 7:22.
Although the camera phone picture is lacking in quality, the person who took it claims to also have confirmation that the side intakes and vents around the exhaust will be constructed of carbon fiber. The wheels will feature centrelocks, the front will have a wider track thanks to extensions and the interior will utilize fabric door pulls.
The GT2 RS will also weigh in at about 200 lbs less than the 997.1 GT2, which when coupled with the increased power, should provide for substantially upgraded performance in all regards.
The German Car Blog suggests that the 997 GT2 RS will be priced at 240,000 euros, no word on U.S. availability or pricing.
Porsche is scheduled to release the full details on May 14, 2010, with the car set to go on sale in Europe in September 2010.

Bet it would be an un tamable monster like it sibling GT2 and its older brother Carrera GT.
Wont be as "drivable" as the Turbo though.

This is surely going to be one of the most amazing Porsches ever! The lightest and fastest! But does it come with yellow wheels?

I love the GT2 RS's and this version of GT2 RS is going to be the most sought after. I hope that Porsche will be able to stamp its authority in GT racing. More power to Porsche. Is it a coincidence that the latest GT2 RS has the same amount of BHP that the 1982 956 C Coupe had?

@AyAn - The hairiest Porsche was the 956 raced by the great Stefan Bellof. His unofficial lap time for the Nurburgring Nordschleife is 6:11.13 in the tracks current configuration and his fastest official lap on the track in the current configuration is 6:25.91 which till date is the official Nurburgring track record for all cars. These times are from the same race and it was held in 1984.

2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS: Unveiled

Just the Facts:
  • Porsche unveils the 2011 911 GT2 RS.
  • The 620-horsepower 911 will officially debut in August at the Moscow auto show.
  • GT2 RS arrives in the U.S. in October, priced at $245,000.

STUTTGART, Germany — Porsche has unwrapped its latest missile, the 2011 911 GT2 RS, which the company media-meisters describe, with only slight hyperbole, as the "fastest and most powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Porsche."
The GT2 RS arrives in the U.S. in October, priced at $245,000, after its world debut in late August at the Moscow auto show. Production will be limited to 500 units.
Output on the car's twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-6 engine has jumped to 620 horsepower, with power delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
Thanks to an aggressive diet, weight has been trimmed to 3,020 pounds, providing an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 1 hp/4.9 pounds. The GT2 RS rockets from rest to 60 in a mere 3.4 seconds and laps the Nürburgring's Nordschleife in 7:18. Velocity maxes out at 205 mph.
Equally impressive is a 5 percent reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
The GT2 RS gets some additional hardware improvements, including wider light-alloy wheels and new tires (245/35ZR19 in front and 325/30ZR19 in the rear), composite ceramic brakes, adaptive suspension management, specific stabilizer bars and engine mounts, plus a recalibrated stability management system that enables the driver to individually switch off stability- and traction-control functions.
The looks have changed subtly, thanks to the application of matte-black carbon-fiber components, as well as flared front wheel arches and redesigned front and rear spoilers.
The cockpit is black with red accents, and features lightweight two-piece carbon-fiber bucket seats. The gearshift and handbrake lever are trimmed in red Alcantara.

From Porsche's Official Press Release

The New Porsche 911 GT2 RS

620 Highly Efficient Turbo-Horsepower: Most Powerful Street-Legal Porsche of all Times

Stuttgart. The time: seven minutes, 18 seconds on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The power: 620 hp. The weight: 1,370 kilograms in road trim with all fluids on board. The car: the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. This model is making its world debut at the Moscow Auto Show on August 25th.

The future top GT model marking the absolute climax in the 911 range is the fastest and most powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart. With a power up by 90 hp and weight down by 70 kilograms in comparison to the 911 GT2, the new 911 GT2 RS has a power-to-weight ratio of just 2.21 kilos per horsepower, by far the best power/weight ratio in its class. Obviously, these are the ideal ingredients for an ultra-high-performance sports car with supreme agility, truly blistering performance on the road, and of course exemplary Porsche Intelligent Performance. Compared to the 911 GT2, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are down by approximately five per cent to 11.9 ltr/100 km and 284 g/km despite this extra power and performance.

In combination with a gasoline engine the 3.6 litre six-cylinder boxer engine boosted by two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry exclusive to Porsche drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Developed especially for the 911 GT2 RS, sports tyres measuring 325/30 ZR 19 convert this massive power into equally massive performance and acceleration on the road: 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in just 9.8 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 28.9 seconds. Top speed is 330 km/h.
Equally supreme braking power on this ultra-high-performance sports car comes from PCCB composite ceramic brakes. Appropriate longitudinal and crosswise dynamics are ensured by the sporty RS set-up of the springs, PASM Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management, anti-roll bars, as well as the engine mounts and PSM Porsche Stability Management.

In its looks the new 911 GT2 RS stands out clearly from the 911 GT2 through the lavish use of carbon-fibre-reinforced (CFR) components in a matt black surface finish, even wider wheels and flared wheel arches at the front, new 911 GT2 light-alloy wheels with central locking, as well as ”GT2 RS“ model designations on the doors and rear lid. The rear spoiler lip made of CFR is now 10 millimetres higher and comes in a surface carbon finish. Along with the upgraded front spoiler lip excellent aerodynamic precision and extra down force are achieved.

The interior also exudes the flair of sporty performance in virtually every detail, featuring lightweight bucket seats made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic in carbon surface finish and lightweight door panels with door opening straps. The basic interior colour is black, contrasting attractively with other features such as the seat centre sections and the roof lining as well as segments on the steering wheel rim. The gearshift and handbrake lever are both finished in red Alcantara.

Limited to just 500 units, the 911 GT2 RS will be available for order as of May 12th 2010 with deliveries starting in September 2010.

Arjun,

What do you mean 'much needed handling'? I'm offended!

Anyway, the GT2 and all other Porsches are the best handling cars in the world despite their rear-engined characteristics and twitchy front ends. The GT2 RS is no less. It's a fantastic handling car. The only difference between the GT2 RS and say, an Audi R8 or even a Nissan GT-R, is that the R8 and the GT-R are very forgiving handlers and can be driven fast by anyone.

The GT2 isn't like that. It needs an experienced hand behind the wheel. It requires to be driven by someone who knows what he's doing and it will bite back very hard if you get it the least bit wrong. But if you get it right, it's a very very rewarding car!

Lol sorry for the offending statement Suhaas.
What I actually meant was the rear wheel drive characteristics of the last 911 GT2 was never near in the handling department of the 911 turbos .It would have been more fun for enthusiasts to drive but I'm sure you would agree on the point that the gt2 never handled as well as the Turbo did because of the AWD.
I also never compare a Poker with anything else, not that I like it so much but I always felt it is a different car all together here to achieve different things and has also got its own charm.
And also wish this new car would be more forgiving on the limits and stop being a widow maker.
