I somehow have a feeling excess fuel or fuel that has dripped out when you top the tank upto the brim and is not wiped from the body is the culprit against the engine heat. This is just me thinking aloud .

Wonder what will happen to the 458 in India?
Judging by your display picture, I understand that you shall not hear a word against the prettiest Ferrari in recent times. But its quite possible that the fault lies with the owners.

In the past 90 days, there have been 9 wrecks. One crash every 10 days.
3 have been engine fires and 6 due to feckless driving.

Haha, no not being biast here atall. It is what i have observed with many sportscar and supercar owners worldwide. I dont find the 458 the prettiest of Ferrari's, infact i find her a little on the ugly side that has to grow on me. Pretty would be the 275gtb, 308, 355, f430 to name a few. Thats just a friends car which he is getting.
Take for example a certain SLK350 which comes to the service center every second week and i am not exaggerating every second week with the same nose damage. The car from its last nose job had barely done around 10kms when i saw the owner had hit the front again on the sealink. The car is back in the garage. Now who do you blame driver or car?
People dont realise these are sort of monsters and at a gentle tap of the accelorator can rage havoc, unlike a sedate sedan that takes a few seconds to kick in.

I hope Ferrari isn't planning to do a Toyota, by making recalls and stuff like that. It really looks like Ferrari need to address this issue.

This one accelerated out of a roundabout, lost control and crashed through a fence, ran over some bushes and landed on an abandoned side road. Damage was limited to mostly scratches and undercarriage.

And both have the engines at the back , which catches fire.

Have there been any Volkswagen cars with back engines on fire?

I am just trying to comprehend some reasons.

Cheers

Now that Ferrari has traced the likely cause of fire to a faulty adhesive as per the news item published in The Economic Times, will Ferrari give new cars to the unfortunate owners whose cars have burnt due to no fault on their part.

Now at least Nano can boast that it matches Ferrari at least on one parameter. But Nano fires seem more likely due to cheap add-ons with electrical connection.

Well, now it looks like it doesn't matter if you pay $2500 or $250000 for a car, they all bust into flames...I just happened read about the article in CNN Money as well.

The reason given by the Ferrari spokesperson "In rare instances the heat shield could become deformed, bringing it too close to the exhaust system and igniting."

Only four or five of them have caught fire due to the mentioned reason according to them. They are supposed to be replaced by Ferrari.

Re: First Crash - Ferrari 458 Italia ! (Already??)

China has superb roads, little road sense & lots Ferrari buying public. Hence all these crashes. India has hardly any worthwhile roads, even lesser road sense & lesser numbers of Ferrari buying public. That's why we don't see any of crashes here.

Re: First Crash - Ferrari 458 Italia ! (Already??)

We don't see crashes here, coz there are 5 year old supercars in India which haven't even crossed 1,000 kms.

458's are really taking the stick out there LiveLeak.com - This horse just doesn't like Ferrari
