Top Racecars

Wanted to do something proper for my 700th post........

Ok here are the rules.

No cars that have been mildly adapted versions of road-going cars.

eg: no Porsche 911 GT3, but GT1 is allowed. Geddit?

A minimum of 3, a maximum of 5 cars on your list.

So heres my list........in no particular order

Mercedes 300SLR:
1955. Mille Miglia. Car number 722. Stirling Moss. Denis Jenkinson. One of the most amazing racing stories of all time. I cannot stop talking about it to anyone unfortunate enough to broach that topic with me.

Maserati 250F:
As a kid, I was greatly inspired on seeing a picture of Juan Manuel Fangio powersliding a 250F through a corner, in a classic car magazine. The story of how he beat the Ferrari driven by Hawthorn in the Nurburgring on near-dead tires, breaking the lap record ten times, will be recounted for centuries.

Ferrari 250GTO:
Probably the most beautiful looking car of all time. Maybe the most beautiful sounding car of all time. Overrated, maybe, but there is no doubting its magic.

I shall post more cars later, got to go now......... G on, tell us about your favourites........

My List: alphabetical order

1) Cheetah (based on Corvette - wildest racecar ever built - www.cheetahracecars.org)

2) Lotus 7 (a legend on & off the track - it qualifies for this list because the road car is a mildly modified version of the track car; not the other way round)

3) Lotus 49 (for Cosworth DFV)

4) Radical SR8 (see thread in International Machines forum)
