429-horsepower, 5.0-liter version V-8 for Genesis/Equus !

Hyundai confirmed its flagship Equus sedan for the U.S. last summer, just after the Pebble Beach Concours, and later pegged the starting price in the mid-$50,000 range. Now we have word straight from Hyundai via our executive editor Marty Padgett, on the scene in Korea, that the car, due for sale later this summer, will also get a 429-horsepower, 5.0-liter version of Hyundai's Tau V-8 engine--and so will the 2011 Genesis Sedan

2011 Hyundai Equus, Genesis To Get 429-HP 5.0-Liter Tau V-8 - MotorAuthority

The existing 4.6-liter Hyundai engine already outpaces the 382-horsepower V-8 in the Mercedes-Benz E550.

Good amount of power out there but the front-grill needs to be changed.

I beg to differ, I think it looks good. The unconventional, and hard looks actually seem to convey the awesome power that lies underneath the hood. Here's a car that dares to look different and everyone starts hatin' it for not looking "conventional".

with you newcoolgadgets .

Plus Genesis if the new David in US. Must say we have to appreciate Hyundai's achievement.

Though Equus does not look that good, IMO.

The American version will look similar to the black car. The chromed/blinged out versions are usually reserved for South-East Asian markets.

It looks butch in a Korean sort of way! That ungainly grill seems to convey that there is a lot of power underneath that hood. But what's really surprising is that it's a Hyundai with a V8! Imagine what this V8 would be like in the Genesis Coupe!

I dont understand why is everyone bent on hitting Hyundai !

I found it good. The design looks unconventional and 429 bhp is indeed astounding.

This is one of those cars that looks waaay better in the flesh than in pictures. The white car at the bottom looks especially bad. I saw many of these while in Seoul for about 2 weeks early in 2009. The Equus and the i30 (many of these in Korea as well) did a lot to change my perception about Hyundai and their design folk. Although the new Verna looks absolutely rubbish

Simple! It has a slanted H badge. If this same car had some other logo, people would be going gaga over it's looks, engine etc etc. Truth is, most people can't digest the fact that Hyundai can make good cars.
In my personal opinion, this car looks good, nothing exceptional I'd say.

In that case those people need to rethink their biased comments. Take a fresh look at the car with a fresh mind, and you will see the whole picture in a different way. Its just like a SRK fan being anti AB (no pun intended to either).

I would say even i used to have a very negative view about Hyundai, but their recent set of cars and the Genesis coupe has changed my perception. I would say good job Hyundai.

well, if a car can perform, I care a freak if its slant H or straight H. For me if a car is capable to handle itself well while it performs, its more than enough, especially for people like most of us, who spend most of the time commuting in our cars than driving them on tracks !!!
