Hyundai IX 20 small MPV revealed

article and pics from carscoop

Quote:
The first batch of official pictures of Hyundai's new ix20 small MPV have made their way onto the web ahead of the car's world premiere at the Paris Motor Show on September 30. The South Korean firm's Honda Jazz / Fit rival was designed and developed at its European R&D centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany.
And by designed, what Hyundai actually means (but doesn't say) is that it took the five-seater Kia Venga and made some exterior and interior styling changes. On the outside, that translates to a new face with a hexagonal grille inspired by the ix35 / Tucson SUV, unique tail lights and exterior mirrors, plus new alloy wheel designs.
Similarly, changes to the interior are limited to the trim and the styling of the steering wheel, instrument binnacle, air-condition / audio systems and door panels. Welcome to the wonderful world of badge-engineering.
Like the Venga, the ix20 will be offered in Europe with a choice of 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter diesel and gasoline engines. Sales are expected to start this fall.

Naah!! I dont like the looks. It looks very much like a Figo from the front. The interiors dont impress me either.

This looks to be nothing but a rebadged Kia Venga ...or is it the other way around - the kia being a rebadged Hyundai?

Venga | Kia Motors UK

Yes, this looks to be very much a rebadged Kia Venga - I spotted one this afternoon outside my office. At the correct price - it'll sell like hot cakes. Maybe Hyundai can do a Maruti here - have multiple products in the same price bands.

Please note: Hyundai i20 sold in India and recently unveiled ix20 are different vehicles. i20 is a hatchback, whereas the ix20 is a MPV.

@.anshuman- MPV= Multi Purpose Vehicle. That is it can be used for a lot many purposes other than just carrying around 3-4 people around town. But this looks like just another hatchback. I thought MPV are suppose to be bigger than hatchbacks. I am a bit confused here. Please clarify!

^^ The seating capacity in a MPV depends the design and purpose, Typically 3 box MPV's seat more than 6 people but smaller 2 box MPV's like the one we are discussing here is designed to seat lesser people but have bigger boot and flexible seating.

More details of MPVs can be seen here.

+1
I also thought this vehicle as a big hatchback like a Ford Fiesta (Euro Version) or a Honda Jazz. why is it been categories as a MPV ?

There are nothing called three box MPVs.Minivans/MPVs are either two box or one box designs. The ix20 is more of a hatch that has been christened as a mini-MPV,possibly a marketing gimmick. Moreover, the Kia Motors UK site lists the Venga as a hatchback.

Price this a notch above the i20 and the Honda Jazz will be dead! Anyway, I don't think Hyundai will be looking to avoid excise-duty if they introduce this here so why not plonk in the biggest engine in it?!

Take this as a sign, Honda. Either drop the price of the Jazz, or give it more features and the shoe-horn the City's 1.5L Vtec motor into it. Nothing else will work!

I guess the rear end looks like the Hyundai H800 (or is it M800) that is being discussed in the Indian Car Scene. Or is it that this is the car which is being mistakingly assumed as the H800?

This replaces the outdated matrix MPV. Not coming to India anytime. Will compete with many French MPVs.
