Re: Jaguar C-X75

Jaguar has revealed more details about the powerplant that will power this absolutely fantastic looking machine. It will be a twin-charged (i.e. both turbo- and super-charged) 1.6 liter engine, revving to a stratospheric 10,000 RPM and produce close to 500 bhp. Jet car indeed! In addition to the petrol engine, the car will also feature a battery pack which can give the vehicle and all-electric range of 60 km. In all-electric mode, the car should still be able to accelerate to 60 mph in under 6 seconds. Can't wait to see this car hit production! With the Ferrari F70 and the Porsche 918 already in the pipeline, things can only get better

Re: Jaguar C-X75

Listen to the hyper engine of the C-X75. It's a red hot engine.

Have a listen to the Jaguar C-X75 - BBC Top Gear

A quote from the article.
Quote:
At the moment, the prototype has 11 radiators. They cool the engine water (x2), the engine oil, the motors, the electronics, the battery, the cabin, the transmission and the water for the intercoolers. Numbers 10 and 11 are the two intercoolers themselves. The engineers are trying to combine some of those rads, so they can get rid of one or two. This will make room for the one amenity the car currently lacks - a boot.

Re: Jaguar C-X75

They have cancelled the production run for this car. Bad economy for a 1 million pound car to be manufactured. The five prototypes will be fully developed and 2 of them are to be auctioned.

Re: Jaguar C-X75

Another ridiculous project shelved. There is no scope (or market) for hybrid and/or electric supercars, is the truth. If I had a million pounds to expend on a car, what would it matter to me whether the car ran on petrol or electricity ? The only reason I'd buy a car of this sort would be out of the novelty factor and to brag with Jay Leno about my garage. Novelty cars do not justify production.

Rolls Royce dropped its all electric Phantom earlier this year too.

Jaguar not to put C-X75 into production

Jaguar have decided not to put the futuristic C-X75 into production as per the new Autocar India. There are five prototypes out of which three will be auctioned, one used for demo and one is being mothballed for a future museum.

Just to remind readers the C-X75 is a hybrid, with two small gas turbines (a gas turbine has a 3x advantage over an IC engine in terms of power to weight), motors powering all wheels and a small battery pack.

It is not surprising that such a futuristic concept is not going into production. Jag do state that at least 60% of the technology developed will be seen in future models - I sincerely hope so.

Maybe the next generation will be put into production.

Re: Jaguar C-X75. EDIT : No plans for production anymore

http://www.worldcarfans.com/

Jaguar has released a bunch of photographs showing off its C-X75 prototype that will never make it to production. Yeah, it's a bit of a shame when you consider the novelty bits that this car boasts of. The C-X75 reportedly features a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a 500 bhp (372 kW) twin-charged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine(!) and two electric motors jointly developing 390 bhp (290 kW). This setup enables the supercar to have a combined maximum output of roughly 850 bhp (633 kW).

Claimed performance figures run north and well into the hallowed McLaren P1/LaFerrari/918 Spyder territory with the C-X75 accelerating from 0-60 mph in less than three seconds, 0-100 mph (160 km/h) in less than six seconds and onto a top speed of roughly 220 mph (354 km/h). The model also has an electric only range of approximately 40 miles (64 km), which sounds cool for practical purposes.

The styling mirrors that of the F-Type somewhat, especially around the glasshouse and the rear haunches. Earlier, Autocar UK got a chance to get behind the wheel of one such prototype. They had a blast, and what's interesting to note, is that blown 1.6 liter four pot howling like a superbike when you give it the beans!
