2011-12 VW Beetle spied camo free!

Pics courtesy carpix and leftlanenews

So, here they are, the first spy shots of the next "new beetle". Using the same platform as that of the latest 2011 jetta, the design now mimics the first generation that came out in 1940s, especially the greenhouse. The front and rear ends are a cobbled up bits and pieces from the current generation, so expect some minor changes when the car will make its world debut next January at the Detroit auto show.

Oh My God! Why do manufacturers spoil good designs one by one when they pen the successive generations of their iconic cars? First was the CLS. Though not bad looking, the new CLS has lost the stunning proportions of the old CLS.

This Beetle, IMO, has spoiled the classy and curvy looks of the current Beetle. Especially, the profile somehow reminds me of the Chrysler PT Cruiser. Its looking hideous. After that brilliant design of the Scirocco and other evolved models like Polo, Vento and Passat, this has spoilt the momentum.

Not bad! I like this design. Its evolved from the current one but still leaves no doubt that it is a Beetle.

A welcome design for the Beetle

+ 1 to HammerHead & McLaren Rulez

This design looks good, finally the beetle will get rid of the girly image which IMO is haunting it in the current avatar.

Come on guys, the current one is a 16 year old design which was put into production 12 years ago. No major changes after that! I am not saying that the current design looks bad, but it is too girly. The new design is more a coupe than the previous one and still keeps the retro look. Good job by the VW designers!

And for the CLS, you have to see one in person and then you will realize the beauty of the new design.

From '' Curves are back '' to '' Curves are gone '' . Certainly reminds the old BUG up-to some extent ! But the front and rear fenders are looking way too bulky. The side profile though reminds me something called the iconic Porsche 911 .

Ya, and thats why I specifically mentioned it's not a bad-looker at all. But, I guess almost everyone would accept that the old CLS was a stunner all the way, but the new CLS, though a good-looker, will not create the same kind of emotional impact.

@arvi86, maybe we should continue the CLS discussion in a new thread. What say?

From the side it looks so incongruous, that elongation seems so much like an afterthought.I wish they had stuck to the lines of the present model.

A few more pics from autoblog. I don't like it one bit. The Beetle just got uglier. Sigh! :(

Cheers!
