Porsche is going to launch a new baby SUV coupe- The Cajun crossover.It shares its underpinnings with Audi Q5 and will be offered in 2 door and 4 door body styles.There will be hybrid version similar to Audi Q5. This is the first vehicle built by Porsche under VW and will be competing against the upcoming Range Rover Evoque.
0-62mph 0r 0-100 km/h in 6 seconds and will weigh 1,700kgs . 2 and 3 liter petrols from Audi will be available.

Named as “Cajun”, the next Porsche is on its way for production. This one will be a compact SUV, which is said to have two doors. Also it will have a coupe like slooping roof and compete against BMW X6 and Range Rover Evoque. It may have 2 diesel engines and will have lots of petrol engines starting from 2 ltr to 3 ltr V6. One environmental friendly electric petrol hybrid is also in the list.
The chairman, VW group, owner company of Porsche, Martin Winterkorn says this one will be ”a little brother for the Cayenne and it is coming to radiate the Porsche brand.” The Cajun will be inspired a little bit from Audi Q5 as it may share some of its technologies, especially the hybrid technology . The Cajun will be shorter than the Q5 but it will be wider. The Cajun will have a sporty interior like the Porsche Boxster.

Just came across this piece of information on Porsche Cajun in a UK publication (online). The small SUV (not a 2 door as reported earlier) is anticipated to have a UK launch in 2012. For me, definitely a better looker than the Panamera experiment

Porsche Cajun Spied For The First Time Ever!

While this might not exactly look like a Cajun, or not even a Porsche, we have more than enough reasons to believe that it is, because the Cajun is actually based on nothing but the Audi Q5, this prototype eventually drove into the Porsche Test Facility and for the eagle eyed, those are previous and current generation Porsche Cayenne rims under those beefy wheel arches.

Happened to see the Cajun in flesh in Bonn last month. Looks like a shrunken Cayenne and it wasn't a 3 door but a 5 door instead. No coupé like sloping roofline either. Managed to click a few pics with my phone but then got busy with shifting hence haven't been able to transfer the pictures to my computer yet. Will post them soon.

Well the Cajun though like the Q5 looks a whole lot better though the Q5 too looks good it now seems conventional compared to the Cajun that gets the porsche curves.

UPDATE: Porsche's baby SUV will be called "Macan" instead of Cajun.

"The small Porsche SUV that goes on sale about 18 months will wear the Macan nameplate, the German automaker said today

Until now, the SUV project had been known by the code name Cajun, created from the concept of “Cayenne Junior.”

Porsche says Macan is “derived from the Indonesian word for tiger and combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics.”

The Porsche Macan will share a platform with the Audi Q5 and will be built at the Porsche plant in Leipzig, Germany, that now builds the Cayenne."
