Hot hatches are a breed in their own right. And a breed that has evolved immensely. It's a pity that we in India don't get to see these cars often on the streets of India, but that wouldn't stop us from kindling a flame for these lovely little rats.

Let's face it, Hot hatches are quick, relatively economical, comparatively easier to run/maintain, small & nimble, practical and extremely fun! Who wouldn't want to own one?!

Take your pick:

RenaultSport Megane Cup 250: Fast and more sure-footed than the Clio, but not as fun!

Engine: 2.0 Litre, 4-Cyl
BHP: 247
0-100 km/h: 6.1 Sec

RenaultSport Clio Cup 200: Quick, easy to drive and a great track-tool! The closest rival to the Golf GTi in terms of overall packaging.

Engine: 2.0 Litre, 4-Cyl
BHP: 200
0-100 km/h: 6.9 Sec

VW Golf GTi: Nimble, quick and the best compromise between power, performance and reliability. A great overall package.

Engine: 2.0 4-Cyl
BHP: 207
0-100 km/h: 6.9 sec

VW Golf R: A four-wheel-drive Golf on a dose of steroids; much more sure-footed and planted than the GTi, but just not as fun!

Engine: 2.0 Litre, 4-Cyl
BHP: 266
0-100 km/h: 5.7 Sec

VW Scirocco R: See Golf R.

Engine: 2.0 Litre, 4-Cyl
BHP: 261
0-100 km/h: 6.0 sec

Ford Focus RS500: Power, performance and now, exclusivity! Addictive turbo! Mad fast! Only 500 blokes will get it!

Engine: 2.5 Litre, 5-Cyl
BHP: 345
0-100 km/h: 5.6 sec

Mini Cooper JCW: Good looking, charming, fast, and it's a Mini! Feels alive underneath! The most communicative of the lot!

Engine: 1.6 litre, 4-cyl
BHP: 208
0-100 km/h: 6.2 sec

Fiat 500 Abarth Essesse: Fun little car that feels light, skittish and alive! Like a little puppy!

Engine: 1.4 litre, 4-Cyl
BHP: 160
0-100 km/h: 7.4 Sec

Subaru Impreza Cosworth: The fastest hatch here. Period.

Alfa Mito Cloverleaf: Not for those who are particular about power. Extremely cute though, but that doesn't get you across the finish-line now, does it?

Engine: 1.4 Litre, 4-Cyl
BHP: 170
0-100 km/h: 7.5 sec

Alfa Giulietta: Gorgeous hatch coupled with great performance and usable power. A good option over the MiTo.

Engine: 1.8 litre, 4-cyl
BHP: 235
0-100 km/h: 6.5

Audi S3 Sportsback: Power effectively translates into great performance. You cannot go wrong with a Quattro. It's too expensive, though!

Engine: 2.0 litre, 4-cyl
BHP: 265
0-100 km/h: 5.7 sec

There is no point mentioning the top speeds of these cars as they don't differ by much, the Subaru being the only exception!

Brilliant poll, Suhaas. And you've given us some amazing pictures to drool over.
My picks: Ford Focus RS500, simply for the power and the practicality
VW Scirocco R, for its amazing looks and German fit and finish

a) Multiple selections allowed in such a poll ?
b) It would be nice to have some basic tech data also for the models, else the hot-ness is pretty much picture-y stuff.
c) Where are our desi hot hatches ?

The review of Fiat 500 Abarth in one of the episodes of TopGear has made me go Fida over it, but the classic looks of Mini Cooper JCW still makes me drool over it and hence the vote for the cooper!

I'd pick the Focus RS!! Not the RS500, since all of them are already sold :P

Suhaas, why multiple options for the poll? Only one car deserves the coveted award

Golf GTi for me, for simply being a classic all-rounder. Granted, not the best handling, power or looks, but as a car to own, for its practicality, subtlety and quality, the Golf would be my bet.

@ suhas ,

Just wondering on the parameters that would be used for a selection .
All the options mentioned over here are not from an Indian perspective . So parameters like , space , practicality , bootspace , etc doesnt mean much in Europe , where you can see these cars . So do we have some parameters
or is it just we vote randomly on each individuals perspective of different parameters .

Wouldnt it be much more meaningful if we have some parameters on which these should be evaluated?

cheers

For me, it has to be either the Mini Cooper JCW or the Ford Focus RS500. But that yellow RenaultSport Megane Cup 250 looks too tempting to resist!

a) Getting it sorted!
b) I'm sorry about the niggles. I'm getting in touch with the members in order to edit my post and add the tech-specs for each model. You see, the 20 minute window period that's allotted for editing had lapsed.
c) This is the international section, Sir. We talk about the international automotive scene!

These cars have nothing to do with the Indian Auto Scene, so the options mentioned are not from an Indian perspective. This is, the International section after-all!

I'm getting the tech-specs put up so that it becomes clear to all!

@Suhaas: No I know whay girls are so confused when they are in a jewelery shop. It's hard to choose one as everything looks good.

For me the Sirocco (for all wheel drive and the looks) & the cooper (fell in love watching "The Italian Job").

It's so hard to choose one

Very well said, jaguar.runs. I'd take the Mini too, and pretty much for the same reason!

Well, you could just take a 'regular' Focus RS. It's not too shabby either!
