A view taken by many, I think....

People misunderstand the F50. They should accept the F50 for what it is (an experiment of high levels of race-car design and engineering in an extreme road car).

People pummeled the F50 for its NVH characteristics. The F0 too has bad NVH because of its bare interiors with little or no sound padding.
I still dont understand how the F50 could be any uglier than the F40. Both are hardly conventional designs, and the beauty of both cars lies in their functionality.
They said its slower than the F40. Does that matter a lot in this car? No. The F50 was normally aspirated, and its slightly lower engine power meant it stood little chance of beating the F40 in the first place. Also the diffrence was very marginal.

The F40 will always be the best supercar ever by Ferrari. I really cannot imagine liking anything more from the Ferrari camp than the F40. Its just that bit special. The styling gives me goosebumps.

F40

simply a beast !
Thats also my ultimate dream car.

My other favourite Ferraris are the F50, 355 F1 and the baby Ferraris 206 and 246 Dino :-) (gorgeous looking)

I am not a fan of their new age designs except maybe the 360 Modena.

An engine.. a gearbox..a petrol tank ...two seats and thats it !!!

In short the F40

A car of pure performance and nothing else. A car for the track and the road . Drop dead gorgeous looks. And the other thing special that it was the last car signed off by Enzo Ferrari before he died

Its the F40 for me

@islero = the F50 is diliked by many simply because of the fact that it was a successor to the F40..
despite having advanced techs ,4 more cylnders, more horse power yet ferrari seemed to lack the performance expected out of them in the F50..it never made and impact neither did it set the bar high for the next ferrari ...

however .. to me in terms of looks it was beautiful ..its was more refined than the raw untamed look of the F40...they both stand in their own place in terms of looks and presence ..

to sum it up man ... in 1985 the F40 was one of the fastest cars around and much ahead of time compared to others...it had complete dominance over the supercar market ... hence following the release of a car like the F40 was no easy task and the F50 had to impress...they set no race programs as the F50 never set the bar in terms of performance ...what it did possess was excellent dynamics and handling ...

cheeers

Ditto. The impact that this car had on my mind when it was launched is difficult to match.
F40 rules!

Enzo for me. It's technologically advanced, has better handling and the quickest off the lot.

Hmm...yes, if you ignore the F40 LM, which should send the enzo's trousers fluttering back down to earth......but the LM was a race version, so if you include that, you must include the F50 GT, which will annihlate them all.....

Nope. They did start a race program that was aborted. Remember the F50 GT? It was a wild wooly 700 bhp raw racing version of the F50 (and looks that completley spoilt the beauty of the normal F50).

http://img486.imageshack.us/my.php?i...if50gt13xn.jpg

The program was aborted not because the car was incompetent , but because Ferrari had little funds left after spending so much on F1. And the rules were changed slightly for which Porscvhe and Mercedes were competley prepared but ferrari wasnt.

Ive got 2 videos of an F50 GT being pursued around a track by a 355 coupe. The sound that engine makes is simply amazing!!!! Ill try and post it up sometime.

If you're talking race versions then the Enzo FXX will cream them all. It's got around 800bhp and goes like a rocket. I've got vids of it, being tested at Monza.

Thanks for reminding me, Shan. Completley forgot about the FXX.
