Definitely superior on power and a better all-rounder than the E60 but sadly it seems to have lost all the character and the sheer raw sense of power and aggression that the E60 M5 exhibited so well. This upcoming M5 just fails to excite and if its a worthy successor to the iconic e60 M5 ? ..i am not sure.
Its infact the next-gen Audi RS-6 that has caught my attention

RS-6 is not and has never been a REAL competitor of the M5. If anything, you could compare it to the E 63 amg. i am not sure what you mean by "raw sense of power and aggression". f10 M5 has a 4.4l turbocharged engine with close to 600 horses. For a fact, we don't know anything about its gearbox or its steering. All we know is the basic exterior of the car (which frankly is way better than the hideous E60). What i dont understand is how people come up with conclusions before even driving the car.(or even before its specifications are released by the manufacturer)

Firstly its an initial impression,NOT a conclusion.
The e60 being hideous is strictly YOUR opinion and it should be kept to yourself. I know more people who absolutely adored the E60 than those who hated it. So it was quirky but big deal ! You were quipping about what i meant by raw sense of aggression and power right ? It means the face, flamed surface, headlights, kidney grille of the e60 had an 'in your face' exuberance that the f10 lacks ,and i personally prefer sport cars with aggressive looks rather than elegant lines.Incase it skipped your mind,let me remind you that this is an automotive forum and people come here to discuss and talk about the A to Z of cars. Its all about personal opinion and NOT about rubbishing what others say and making a point so relax.

May be i was rash with my comment and i take that tone back. And when i said it could be compared to E63, i meant the M5 and the E63 could be in the same league(poor choice of words by me). But I stick to my comment about the RS6. You can check the history, sales or reviews and you will see where it actually stands. I know it from a personal experience of driving all three of them at a mercedes event (E60 m5, E63 amg and RS6). And do u really think rs6 is agressive?(except for those mitsubishi headlamps), i mean look at the side profile. If you look at the opinions about e60 across the globe you will find that it was the most hated 5er(probably thats what got bangle fired). F10 has been the most accepted design globally of any 5er. I am not against your opinion but what i am against is comparison of vehicles that have never been in actual competition, except on paper. RS6 is just a wanna be. I am not an Audi basher, infact i love some of their recent designs (A4, A5, R8, the front of a7), Audi has just not been on par with bmw's performance and handling... be it a sports sedan like m5vs rs6 or a regular 3series vs a4. (and its not my personal opinion, its a proven fact by experts in automotive industry).

Well isnt it a well known fact that Beemers were always left best driven and the Mercs, best to be driven in with Audi finding the perfect blend between the 2 ?? I dont need to check past sales etc. I know the M5 recorded sales unmatched by the other 2 but by saying potent rival what i mean is, its not for no reason that every auto mag ,show in the world compared the rs6 to the M or AMG right ? They obviously thought the car has something in it is why they compared it and though most people dismiss Audi easily and still do not name it on the same page as BMW and Merc ,fact remains, they are and will remain 1 of the best manufacturers to turn to. Most deny but really, couldn't care less !
The aggression in the rs6 is what again I (personal opinion) would term as understated aggression. The side profile is virtually the same as the outgoing A6 which saves the upcoming generation from any unwanted quirkiness. The face and rear of the outgoing A6 were characterless and way too bland and i can safely say that atleast the face has been worked upon (rear remains disappointing).
Finally about the wannabe statement - I would say that about a few AMGs. Really do not like some of them !
Last little bit of correction - Its Mitsubishi who took to Audi's face styling methods with cars like the Outlander and not the other way around. Mitsubishi like headlights ???LOL. Really now

I agree. This one looks nowhere menacing like the one it is succeeding.

I have always been a die hard fan of the Bangled E60 M5, not quite a fan of the new frontal design of the f10. The New Engine is a welcome. Anyways here are a few pictures and a teaser Video of the New F10 M5. (Source: M5board.com)

I am not a big fan of the front grill. It definately needs a more bulky front. We really can't say yet because the released car will have a totally different look from the masked one. So have my fingers crossed I am really looking forward to the hearsay 578bhp they say it will have although some say it will be more than 600.

The New Grill + Those New understated headlamp cluster. The E60 had a more Prominent Headlamp Cluster design and was the highlight of it. It gave the E60 the Aggressive stance to its character.

Power will be close to 600 BHP, if rumours are to be believed. And power will be courtesy the twin turbo V8, already intoduced in the X5 and X6 //M, albeit in a slightly different level of tune. Can't wait for this M5 to be revealed.

I am a great fan of Bimmers and I fancy the new M5. It is absolutely swell. Yet again downsizing proves it is ruling the roost as against gargantuan NA units. The 4.4V8 mill with twin turbos is causing an adrenaline rush in me. Pray the M3 gets forced induction as well.
