Think you have hit the nail on the head. Letting him go midseason, would have caused trouble for FI.
If that is the reason, his F1 career may be over.

Ricciardo, Vergne to race for Toro Rosso in 2012 Formula 1 season - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com
Bad bad move from Redbull! I dont care about Buemi, but Jamie was a much better driver. I hope he gets a chance to be on the grid for next season!

i guess both of them outgrew the safe nest they were in and Redbull will keep doing it till they think they have found next "vettel"

Re: The 2012 Formula One Season

Latest news is that Force India will have Bianchi as test driver, which is quite puzzling as he is in Ferrari young drivers program.

Surprising is that usually by 15th dec FIF1 announces its drivers but not this time!! wonder why?

Re: The 2012 Formula One Season

Last year Force India delayed as it had to settle with Liuzzi. Wonder what is the reason this year.

I was kind of expecting this. And with the number of drivers looking for a seat next year, only option for Sutil will be one of the lower ranked teams.

Re: The 2012 Formula One Season

Sutil was supposed to have sponsorship from Medion. However, Medion has now been taken over by Lenovo. So, whether the sponsorship continues, is to be seen.
Also, the Renault incident may have a bearing.
As per me, if he manages a seat at Williams, he should continue. Moving to HRT would not make sense at all. Else, he should concentrate on his piano, at which he is supposed to be rather good.

Re: The 2012 Formula One Season

2 teams remain :

Williams : already have Maldonado's millions, they should not opt for a (richie rich) newbie
HRT : Have to opt for a pay driver dont they

Ferrari eyes Sutil after Force India exit

above news item confirms what i recall having read- Sutil saying that announcement of drivers at beginning of the season does not always mean the lineup is final-there was a hint at Ferrari in the same article.

Ferrari and Montezemelo have confirmed Massa for 2012.
They wont get back on their word so late in the season when no other top drives are available.

Sutil to Ferrari in 2013 looks a good bet.

Dont be surprised if Massa is given the testing role at Ferrari for 2012 while Sutil could get a seat to drive the 2012 car. Badoer has left Ferrari and that testing seat is empty now! Luca is one mad person who will pay someone to not drive in F1 and expect anything from him!

Ferrari has confirmed talks with Kubica as well!
