Re: The 2012 Formula One Season

Why does the Force India have two cameras(one on the front wing and the air intake)? The Ferrari seems to have one.

I don't understand these black aerofoilish things, can anyone shed light on them?

If you're talking about the black tube on the roll bar, its a periscope gauge. I have no idea what it does. But Ferrari is always amused by it during tests.

The close up of the duct(?) on the RB8. That rear is packed superbly well.

Re: The 2012 Formula One Season

Yeah that's what I'm tAlking about, but not this one ! The one on the roll cage is always the
camera, but what's with the whisker-on-a-cat type device on the
VJM05 and the Caterham, attached to the front wing.

Not all cars have them,Could it be the antenna? It seems strange , I really want to know why it exists.

D33-PAC, I thought you were talking about this periscope gauge.

Can you post a pic of that 'whisker-on-a-cat' type device?

Re: The 2012 Formula One Season

The periscope on the ferrari is all about data collection.

The slot on the step on the front nose of the Red Bull looks interesting. After looking around, Adrian Newey (chief designer) has said that it is for driver cooling. I wonder if that will come under scrutiny!?

I dont the times can be taken seriously. Mclaren, Ferrari and Red Bull werent doing any quick laptimes. Mercedes dont have their 2012 car. We should probably wait until the second test to find out the pecking order.

I think this is what D33-PAC is talking about (circled in red):

Re: The 2012 Formula One Season

As days progress, more Gems from Kimster , this time on DRS !

"The way the wings work is for me a little ridiculous. Overtaking is not really a great art anymore. You just put the wing down and go past easily. The guy in front can't really do anything. But I agree that at least it makes the show better."

@deetjohn, good joke!

Anyway, sorry for the horrible analogy.

This is what I meant. Now that I've observed it even more, I think I'm wrong, it is not a electrical device.

The Schum did a short run on the soft tyres and zoomed past. Something tells me Mercedes have got some very special design waiting to be unleashed (Rumour in the paddock is a new front wing - which they dont want others to copy quickly).
Imagine if they are the fastest and Micheal gets to grips with the tyres ......

Re: The 2012 Formula One Season

Massa seems to be quite negative about the 2012 Ferrari. Makes me wonder if they have gone a bit overboard with the aggression.

More seasonings/toppings can be provide by the likes of Takumo Sato

On Massa's observation, this might be straight sandbagging. He might be instructed to tell that, who knows.

Media has really twisted Massa's words when he said that Ferrari is going to spend more time on collecting data since its a completely new car compared to the F150. And if you folks are still worried about the fastest that Ferrari could do, they have used only the Medium & Hard compound tires so far in testing.

Here are Massa's comments from InsideFerrari:

Felipe Massa: “I think the F2012 could well suit my driving style better than the previous car: for example, there is much less understeer. It’s only a case of working on it calmly and with concentration and that’s what we will continue to do over the next few days when Fernando drives. I think this car has great potential, also taking into account the point we are at now. Is this the ugliest Ferrari I’ve ever driven? I don’t know, as from the cockpit you can’t see the front wing and therefore not the step either: but definitely from the outside, it’s not the prettiest…”

Re: The 2012 Formula One Season

Not a question on Massa's current rant.

What do you folks think on where he will land up in 2013 ?
I don't think the Scuderia will host him. He might land in one of the midfield teams.... Thoughts please !
