Yes, TCS/ Tata is not listed in the official suppliers list and the brand is not to be seen on the livery as well. I think 'Infor' has replaced them.

As vikram_d rightly pointed out, the stepped nose is because of the regulation which requires the nose to be low. And at the same time, I guess the new pull-rods at front demand it to be of certain height as well. So the step was introduced to adhere to both and to get proper airflow underneath the car or maybe to keep the weight down. We will know more as the season progresses.

re: 2012 F1 Cars Unveiled

I hate to say this but out of the ones released till now, Mclaren looks the best. Force/Ferrari/Caterham look outright UGLY thanks to that step nose job.
Sigh.Back in the day these cars looked so elegant and beautiful!
In the name of aerodynamics and what not, they have just lost character in my opinion.

The Ferrari looks like it was designed by some folks at the Lego company. Must admit, that Mclaren is aesthetically very pleasing.

Waiting to see how one Mr. Newey has interpreted the regulation

re: 2012 F1 Cars Unveiled

Looks like we need to get used to the Beluga Whale designed cars this year.

Even the Lotus cars carry that Stub nose. Only Mclaren being a difference.

With RedBull, Sauber and Toro Rosso unveiling their cars today, it needs to see how their design goes.

The RB8 is here. Yes, it has 'the 2012 nose', but is a good looking car.

The rear looks even tighter than the RB7 from these pictures.

The official video is here. The RB8 Revealed But can't make much out of it. Will have to wait for the first run.

Re: 2012 F1 Cars Unveiled

As much as i hate admitting it, all the other cars just makes the Mclaren look Fabulous!

Makes the Mclaren design look 'radical', lets wait and watch the times that these machines set during testing. I for sure hope Mclaren got it wrong, but history suggests otherwise.

Interesting read here:
Ferrari nose best: F1 teams opt for a radical aerodynamic design | Richard Williams | Sport | The Guardian

A snip from the article:

But you know what? By mid-morning in Jerez, in chilly temperatures but under a beautiful clear blue sky, it was the McLaren MP4-27 – the only one from a leading team without a step nose – that looked out of place. As Jenson Button took the new car out for its first exploratory laps on the Circuito de Velocidad, the smooth, unbroken downward curve of its front fuselage – which attracted much favourable comment at its launch last week – made it seem almost like a museum piece when compared to the brutal contours of its new rivals.

Re: 2012 F1 Cars Unveiled

Isnt it strange that the step nose gives an impression of overall boxiness for most of the cars on the grid? The curved front wings do not seem to counter this illusion either. Nor have the sidepods or rear sections become boxier compared to 2011. The only other element that adds to the square-ish-ness is the rear wing. The only exception is the Mclaren which is stunning in form and colour.
