Michael Schumacher retiring at the end of 2012

Well, as the silly season is fast approaching its season, the Mercedes-Hamilton Distress marriage has thrown too many speculations wide open.

Why did Schumacher allow his contract to lapse ?

Willi Webber has got Schumacher a multi million dollar sponsorship recently..?

Ferrari are still tight lipped about Massa's future at Ferrari..?

Re: Michael Schumacher's 2013 move - FERRARI or SAUBER

Willi Weber is no longer Schumi's manager. Hasn't been for 3 years now. So he won't be getting him a muti million dollar deal for Schumi.
I think he would most likely quit at the end of the season. Although, we as fans would like to keep watching him race, we need to remember that he is 43 and will be 44 before the start of next season. Driving for Sauber would mean that he is too desperate for a drive, which is never good.
I don't think he would get back to Ferrari either. Ferrari didn't like it when he signed up with Merc, who are their competitors both on track and off it. Besides, the whole team is built around Alonso right now, so it wouldn't do his reputation any further good driving as a number 2 to Alonso. I think he would most likely quit, unless he gets a seat at Redbull , which is even more unlikely, since they have already signed up Webber for next year and haven't shown any interest in him so far.

Nothing as yet confirmed for the 2013 season for MS, personally, i think he should retire.

He should retire to save some grace. On the other hand he should go to sauber and enjoy some fun driving for a year promoting sauber.

I always want the top drivers to drive in smaller teams to build them and market them.

Personally i want him to driver Sauber.

He should move to a smaller team with plans to move into a managerial role. It's clear he cannot stay away from Formula1. It's time he uses his experience to build a winning team. Sauber could be a good move if he does not intend to just drive, rather do more than that.

The below article clearly mentions Schumi's new sponsors signed recently.

Why would the sporting legend sign a contract with a company if he is Retiring from the sport..?

Schumi will fit in well as a development driver for one of the smaller teams, a role similar to what de la Rosa has been doing for a few years now.

The only question is, with his stature, will he be willing to work with a smaller team.

Re: Michael Schumacher's 2013 move - FERRARI or SAUBER

I think Michael should stay in F1 as long as he enjoys it, one of his take aways from Mercedes should be to stay away from backstabbers!

All the great drivers agree too...

I dont think any top 5 would be interested in schumacher as of now, as a driver.
Although it'd be great fun to see the red team pick out alonso and pair schumacher with massa...
snide,that.

Signing of new sponsors doesn't mean anything. He signed a record number of sponsors when he retired in 2006. He was earning more than most of the drivers on the grid although he wasn't driving anything, just because companies would pay him to have their logo on his cap.
So again, I don't think him signing on some new sponsors has anything to do with where he is driving next season.
It looks increasingly likely that Ferrari would either re-sign Massa or go with Hulk or Di Resta for their second seat.
Although I love the Sauber team and Michael signing for them would mean better financial stability for the team, I think Michael should retire if he doesn't get a Ferrari drive.

Re: Michael Schumacher's 2013 move - Ferrari or Sauber ?

Methinks Schumacher should retire as a driver, and join a team as adviser or join Formula One administration in some capacity.

Re: Michael Schumacher's 2013 move - Ferrari or Sauber ?

I agree he should hang up his racing boots, there were some rumours around that he can join Ferrari as a consultant. I bet as a consultant he will be very valuable to any team he chooses to join.

Re: Michael Schumacher's 2013 move - Ferrari or Sauber ?

We love you Schumi. No doubts about it. We would want to see you WIN everytime you hit the track, but please.. times have changed. For me, you will be one of the greatest and most successful F1 driver ever (personally) and you have contributed quite significantly to the sport and society. Its high time you quit and have a graceful end to your comeback. I wish to see you Win a race this season.
