Re: 2012 F1 - Circuit of the Americas

There was a water leak on the RBR which made Vettel sit out of FP2 for close to 60 mins. But when he came out, he was just too fast. 0.757s up on Webber in 2nd.

Alonso is claimed a very close 3rd to Webber. But Vettel looks to be in supreme control.

Vettel will be using his engine number 8 for the 3rd time in COTA.

His pace looks monsterous !

Boring race ahead?

Quote:
Leading Formula 1 drivers fear there could be little overtaking in Austin's first United States Grand Prix.

McLaren's Jenson Button thinks the configuration precludes cars following each other closely.

"[But] I'm sorry to say that with the way the tyres are with low degradation, I don't think there's going to be a lot of overtaking."

Red Bull driver Mark Webber thinks the lack of off-line grip will be the main impediment to passing.

Asked how he rated Austin's overtaking potential, Webber replied: "Not the easiest track. Off-line it is very slippery. But it is a good circuit and we will see what the racing is like."

Button's team-mate Lewis Hamilton thinks the back straight DRS zone will see the majority of overtaking.

"The best point is going to be the back straight, simply because it's nice and long and has the DRS zone," he said. "Otherwise it's going to be pretty difficult to follow [rivals], particularly through the fast Turn 4/5/6/7."

The F1 app gives you live timings and other info on race and the track.

Re: 2012 F1 - Circuit of the Americas

Looks like Austin will be practically the curtains for the 2012 championships. Vettel-Red Bull seem out of reach of Fernando and Ferrari.

You can download the official F1 Timing app from Formula1.com. Though I would not recommend it as it costs a lot and with just two races remaining in the season, it's not worth it.

Alternately I have found a brilliant app with a lot more features developed by Google which is a standalone app which provides Live F1 timings from Formula1 website using your Formula1.com Login information. This app can be used on your PC, Android or Symbian Phone. I am not sure whether they have one for iPhone.
The best part about this app is that it doesn't use Java and no need for any browser and is faster than the browser version of Formula1.com. You can also get a lot more statistics and head and head driver information along with commentary on this app.

Here's the link for the same.

Re: 2012 F1 - Circuit of the Americas

If we count only the best laps from the drivers so far, Vettel is .569s faster than Webber.

However, Vettel is only 4th fastest in sector 1. Webber tops it. And .207s faster than Vettel. So he can go even faster with the same grip levels. The longer sectors 2 & 3 is all Vettel.

How I wish Pirelli weren't this conservative with the tyre choice. Ferrari could have had some chance in the hot race then.

@speedmeister, Thank you for that app. I like it. Downloaded the PC version that along with sky live streaming should set me good.

Re: 2012 F1 - Circuit of the Americas

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will be sure to check them out.

Is there anything that would be of good use to me while attending ? Sitting in the stands and watching is one thing but I'm worried about how I'll know what throughout quali and race.

Any suggestions from previous race attendees ?

Well the best bet is the official app by Soft Pauer, but
1) its ridiculously expensive, and
2) there's only two races left

I use it on my droid, and its good. The developer (and app) is exactly same for ios too iirc.

Re: 2012 F1 - Circuit of the Americas

Vettel is un-beatable now. Though, I feel pity for button. This one too will go to red-bull, probably

Alonso- Still trying hard to be in the game. Hamilton, is doing well now. Let's see how it goes in the final race, Though i am pretty sure vettel will lead throughout the race.

Cheers,
Sameer
