F1 Spy Scandal on eve of the European GP

Quote:
May 6 (GMM) A spying war has broken out at the Nurburgring, according to German reports.

It is claimed that a communications specialist at F1 championship leader Renault has successfully tapped into Ferrari's encrypted radio systems -- and Ferrari know about it.

'Bild' newspaper said the Flavio Briatore-led camp 'monitored every word' spoken by Ferrari's engineers and drivers throughout Friday, including secret technical and race strategy information.

The Renault specialist is reportedly using a high-tech piece of equipment to do the spying, whose efforts could not be thwarted even by Ferrari changing its radio frequency several times.

F1's governing body is apparently aware of the alleged saga, with an 'insider' at the FIA telling Bild: ''It is not a secret that the top teams invest a lot to obtain the information of other teams.

''But without strong evidence, we cannot intervene.''
These cheaters making noise always when Ferrari and MS make a comeback. Both Flavio and his team of Spies must be put in a thrash can.
Can't they win on their own strategy.

Spy Vs. Spy

The Renault Pit Radio Clip which was aired on Star Sports this evening during qualifying lends credence to this stroy. Alnonso was in the pits waiting to drive out for his quali lap in the second stage when we hear his engineer reporting to him that Schumi had done his quali lap on old scribbed tyres.

Well F1 is a hi tech sport and the stakes are pretty high. So this doesn't surprise me a bit.

So apart from the drivers, engineers, tyre manufacturers we also have hackers. Great opprtunity for Indian IT.

In case you guys didn't know. Its not hard for teams to catch other teams' radio transmissions and this has been going on for years and teams are aware that their radio transmissions are not secure thats why most do not discuss technical details with drivers on the radio, so lets not get carried away with words like "Spy" and "Scandal" which is nothing more than the media trying to selling its stories.

No it does not lend credence to the story. Teams sending their mechanics or tyre engineers to "walk around" in front of other teams' garages is a common occurence. And the teams have a lot more info on hand about everything than we do on TV.

I dunno abt Michelin teams, but ALL Bridgestone teams share their data. So i wouldn't be surprised if they were hangin arnd each others pits.

Offtopic -

.
what rubbish you talk man.the team dosen't talk to drivers only, they also talk to engineers,
weather men, their stratigist etc.all this talk is confidential otherwise why would they use encryption.all the team radios you hear during race are nonsense talks given to the FIA by the teams for broadcasting to the public and are not even 1% of what is actually going on.

OK forget that, tell me one reason why should the renault team be monitoring Ferrari's private communications. That stupid Flavio talks of Gentleman's angreement and does this.

a lot goes behind F1 than what you see on your tele and yes before you say it again let me tell that "MS is a cheater and makes people crash to win races"

Ok, i thought we were only talking about the pits to driver radio communication. But yes, you are right about the engineer, weatherman etc.

Anyways, havn't read anything even remotely related to this topic on any other prominent F1 site. But german press making a big deal; of it isn't surprising since its MS's home race and he is getting his *** kicked fair and square by the french and spanish.

Anyways, ferrari fans complaining about others cheating doesn't sound right!

cmon michael has got away with driving into damon hill in 1994 at adelaide..
the FIA should get concrete proof and then prosecute renault.. if they can

all teams indulge in 'spying' thats no secret..

Well as long as technology keeps improving, such incidents/allegations will crop up...

The amount of money, resources and technology Ferrari has, with that if they can't win races, then I'm sorry for them mate.
Not to count the number of times they have discriminated against Barrichello. What has MS proved to the people by winning those world championships? That when you have the best car and little competition from other people, you can be a world champion. What about Ayrton Senna? What about Mark Webber in a Minardi?
