Re: The 2013 Formula One Season

James Allison's move to Ferrari has played a crucial role in re-hiring Kimi as per the comments from Stefano Domenicali.

Quote:
As for the technical side of things, not only do we know full well how much Kimi can contribute at an important time like this, when the technical framework is changing so significantly, but we also have first hand information from James Allison, as to how much the Finn has also progressed in this area over the past two years

Kimi is back and we don't have Indian GP next year

Hope Massa gets justice and join Lotus. Wishful thinking

Cheers!

For the greater common good, it will be better if Massa goes back to Sauber. I think Sirotkin is going to bring in enough dough to the table to cover up for all expenses.
Also Sauber is still a Ferrari engine customer and am sure Domenicali & co will have a soft corner for him to push the deal thru. Plus, you have his experience. I have not seen him setup cars badly and can bring in a wealth of experience. Hulk cannot bring that. He deserves a Lotus and can be the one to watch for the likes of McL ( Checo & Jense need to be kicked out at the earliest) for 2015 and later.

OMG, Paul DiResta will get more grumpy now that no one seems to bother about him.

This sentence piqued my curiosity.

Which driver has left Ferrari and fared better in their subsequent team/s?

Off the top of my head
Irvine - Last race win was with Ferrari
Barrichello - 2 race wins with Brawn compared with 9 race wins with Ferrari
Schumacher - Last race win was with Ferrari
Kimi - Race win yes but Last WDC (only WDC) with Ferrari.
(He doesnt count anyway considering that he's getting back to the scarlet team)

Im not going further into history but I see a pattern here.

Can you think of anyone who has beaten this trend?

Alain Prost. Left Ferrari, went to Williams and won a WDC.
Niki Lauda. Won 2 WDCs with Ferrari. Left, retired, came back and won a WDC with McLaren.

That is precisely the point. Hulkenberg has better chances of fighting if he gets the Lotus seat. If Massa joins Lotus, Hulkenberg would be stuck with Sauber. Massa is unlikely to show any magic in Lotus which he couldn't do in a Ferrari. The only reason Kimi couldn't get past Massa for most of the current season was because the gain for Lotus with DRS in the straights were matched by Ferrari without the DRS.

Thank you. F1 trivia knowledge enhanced

Niki Lauda
He won 2 WDCs with Ferrari(1975,1977) and another one with Mclaren (1984)

Alain Prost
He never won a WDC with Ferrari(1990-1991). Had 3 WDCs before with Mclaren(1985,1986,1989). Then his final one with Williams(1993)
So he actually fared better in teams other than Ferrari

Since 1993, there has been no driver to better himself after a Ferrari experience.
(@Aditya: Dont mean to offend you. My question is sufficiently answered. Im just playing around with the stats)

Yep.
Most of the time, Michael Schumacher was there. The team Ferrari built was one of the best ever - guys who knew their stuff - MS, Todt, Brawn, Byrne.
MS retired from the sport, came back after a long gap. That and age obviously plays a part in one's progress. Kimi won with Ferrari, had a so - so year, took a sabbatical and came back with a not so rich team. Makes a difference. He is back with Ferrari for 2014 and 2015. Both Alonso and Kimi are in their 30s now. Not too many years left for them. Still, both are fast and if they are allowed to race fairly, it will be entertaining for us. Ferrari have to pull up their socks and give them the cars they deserve.
Williams is in a sad state today and since Sam Michael has taken his genius to McLaren, they are in a mess too.
Red Bull has money, great engineering and designing and a young and very fast driver. At the moment, it looks like only Ferrari (FA and KR) and probably Mercedes (Lewis Hamilton) can stop them. That too if they get their act together. Else, be prepared to see Vettel smash many records.

Re: The 2013 Formula One Season

2014 still a long way to go but the pit lane talks are interesting than the races itself.

Lotus names massa as a possible candidate for kimi's seat.

Re: The 2013 Formula One Season

Head of aerodynamics at Lotus, Dirk deBeer moves to Ferrari. That's the third person Lotus has lost to Ferrari after Allison and Kimi.

Quote:
As part of a concerted effort by the Maranello outfit to push itself forward so it can capture its first title since 2007, it has convinced de Beer to join.

Although there has been no official announcement about Ferrari's plans, it is expected that de Beer will work alongside the team's current head of aero Loic Bigois when his current contract with Lotus runs out at the end of this year.

Ferrari showed how serious it is in its efforts to ramp up its organisation when it signed Lotus' former technical director James Allison earlier this year.

Allison joined the team at the beginning of this month and is likely to have targeted the key individuals that he thinks can help make a difference at Ferrari.

Looks like Lotus will have a tough time next year if they lose people like this. Not sure if they would be competitive next year.

Re: The 2013 Formula One Season

I am happy that Kimi joined Ferrari, but still i preferred to have Niko Hülkenberg partnering Alonso. The guy really needs some good team, he is some one who can extract more than 100% from any car. My ideal team will be;

Redbull
1. Vettal
2. Kimi
Ferrari
1. Alonso
2. Hulk

Re: The 2013 Formula One Season

Now, Ferrari (Allison) is bringing Dirk De Beer (Chief Aero) from Lotus to Ferrari.

I hope that little Ferrari V6 works out well. Ferrari has lot of aero guys now already!

Looks like the attraction for the Lotus seat seems to be going down slowly atleast for Nico. Lotus might end up fighting with Sauber next year.
