Re: The 2013 Formula One Season

Autosprint magazine have posted this pic, claiming evidence of Red Bull using a banned traction control system given the nature of the tire marks from Webber's car.

Interesting..

Awesome feathering of the throttle.
But could they seriously be using such an obvious system?

Feathering of the throttle, I doubt if a normal human being can do it that fast during outright acceleration.

There could be a system that can get the effect of traction control, the tyre marks are indicating a similar pattern.

The way traction control works is similar to ABS but does the exact reverse of what ABS does while braking. During outright acceleration if a wheel loses traction it can pulse the brakes or reduce power to those wheels to gain traction. The tyre marks are indicating that, however I think I will wait to hear some expert opinion on this.

Its Autosprint that has reported this story, so I am bit skeptic

Re: The 2013 Formula One Season

Isnt that exactly what TC is suppose to prevent from happening ? In addition I see some wheel spin there.

I don't think Dietrich Mateschitz would be dumb enough to blow billions in F1 for brand polishing only to worsen the brand name after spending so much.

I hate Red Bull too but these kind of allegations are silly, will they accuse RBR of cheating next time because SV and MW shaved their armpit hair in order to gain some milliseconds ?

Re: The 2013 Formula One Season

I think it is a silly allegation. RBR is not stupid to use banned traction control.

I find that story stupid but RB are certainly capable of doing such things. Just search for number of clarifications issued by FIA because RB went finding loopholes.

Re: The 2013 Formula One Season

I don't get this. Isn't the McLaren ECU now standard across teams? How can any team get around that?

I think its the grime on the track which is affecting the traction as that RBR is off the racing line.

I am pretty sure the McLaren ECU is standard along with some standard software, but the teams are allowed to make changes to some parts like engine maps and such depending on the different engines and different requirements for each team. I am not very sure, but I believe this is the case. All engines cannot run on the same engine map, even the same manufacturer because of different exhaust setups and gearboxes etc.

Absolutely, there could be a trick to reduce to the locking wheels and make it work like a traction control. The different launch control procedures itself makes it obvious that the teams have fairly good control to customise the standard ECU.

BTW, today is the big day for Mercedes

The story so far...
Christian Horner makes a surprise appearance at the tribunal
FIA confirmed that no permission was granted for Mercedes to use the 2013 car
Mercedes claim to be innocent
Mercedes wants Ferrari to get some sanctions for using the 2 year old car if any sanctions are ruled against Mercedes for using their 2013 car

Missed a key word in my post and realised the error only after the 20mins edit window.

and Mercedes claiming it was a Pirelli test.. (they just went along for the ride)

On a serious note, Lauda & Wolf are not present at the hearing. Will they use this a tool to get Brawn out? He has publicly admitted it was his call.

Re: The 2013 Formula One Season

Mercedes now admit that they made both drivers, Nico and Lewis wore unmarked black helmets at the test. #Cheats

A financial penalty would just be the cost of testing... hope race bans are brought in

Re: The 2013 Formula One Season

Financial penalty would be nothing for Mercedes, they should be given atleast 4 race ban this year!

Lets settle on 3?

Their closing statement was, if found guilty we'l accept a ban from the Young Driver Test. Ridiculous... someone needs to tell them this is not KBC.. they DO NOT GET 4 options!

They are taking a long time with the verdict.. quite a few hours delayed.

---------------------------------

Just in. Mercedes have been banned from the YDT.
Thats it. Bunch of sissies at FIA
