Re: The 2014 F1 Season

I have been thinking about this for a while on F1. I completely understand the rule changes are for good and to make the sport more competitive and efficient. But there is one rule I just cannot make any sense. You see literally everyone have been crying for better tyres for almost 3 seasons in a row. And I believe part of the reason is because, the cars are forced to run with a full load of fuel every race. Why can't they bring back refuelling to the equation and restrict the fuel supply to a team instead of have the cars run with all the fuel that is given to them. I think lighter cars can have the tyres last longer for them.

They are waiting for Massa to retire so that they can bring back refuelling to F1.

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

FIA grants entry to Romanian FRR F1 project (source) as the 13th team on the grid, though it remains to be seen whether they enter F1 in 2015 before Haas.

The current back marker teams may not be able to continue in F1 once more teams come in. Team that finishes 11th or worse would not get anything at the end of the year from FIA as per the current distribution model. If Marussia and Caterham would not have a realistic shot at P10 in constructors next season with another better team in the grid, they might pull out of F1. With Bianchi scoring Marussia's first points, it is certainly an uphill battle for Caterham to get something at the end of the year. In case of Marussia, they may be able to remain for 2015 season, though they may find it difficult to continue beyond that.

Red Bull could bill Renault for 'damage'

Red Bull Racing could yet bill Renault for lost revenue such is the F1 team's unhappiness over the French manufacturer's issues.

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

Sajan,

I had missed this piece of news. I think one thing is Renault's "de-rated" performance the other is the reliability. One can argue with Daniel making to the top consistently and Seb not doing that. But personally post Spain, I thought Seb would have beaten Daniel in Monaco had he not suffered the Turbo failure.

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

With the soundtrack of Naturally Aspirated F1 cars now being replaced by a whistle from a blow off valve, let's turn up the volume and treat our ears to what F1 cars should sound like!

Listen to the FXX as it downshifts! What purity!

Check 0:36, you can see the brake disk glow!

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

I was at the Singapore F1 last year. The sound of the engines were pure magic. I agree with most on the fact that F1 is synonyms with the soundtrack.

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

Good Bye Jenson?

Alonso to Mclaren in 2015? Or maybe Vettel or even Raikonnen?

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

Just when I was having a hard time thinking how F1 could be further ruined (personal opinion), FIA out does itself again.

A host of new rules announced, these include but are not limited to:
1. Standing restarts after safety car
2. 4 Engines a year from the current 5
3. Making the nose look better.

Wow.
Soon, they may even put in mixed mode racing, but the f1 cars will have to make way for the sedans from a higher class.
I'm glad to have witnessed the days of half fuelling just to get advantage out of the pits.

+1 on #2. +100 on #3.

4 engines is a good ruling as it will increase the durability of engines. The engineers will surely find ways to make it happen without loss of power in one or two seasons. And this means, more alterations can be done on the current engine. Ferrari, Honda and Renault (if they are going to hang around) will be happy.

But #1 is bad, very artificial. I hate restarts unless its a red flag. The Safety Car itself puts the leading drivers at a disadvantage as it bunches everyone up. This is not fair at all. Besides, I love the rolling starts after the Safety Cars goes in.

I could be wrong, I think removing re-fueling, had lot to do with safety as well.

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

What the hell!!

All in the name of cost cutting. There will be no cost cutting. Whatever the big teams save from engines & less wind-tunnel time /CFD, they will throw on hiring more top people like Mercedes. How many ex-TDs do they have? (I know some of them have left). The only way to control costs are to turn it into a spec-series. And no one's going to like that.

Standing starts after SC to increase overtaking?? It's crap like this which is spoiling the sport. Why can't you reduce aero grip and increase mechanical grip (tyre width) so that it becomes easier to follow cars even at circuits like Barcelona?

You gotta love this

Fernando’s girlfriend should then run off with Justin Bieber (52.5 million Twitter followers) and Luca Montezemolo and Marco Mattiacci should appear on the grid, dressed as a pantomime prancing horse, to cheer up the grumpy Spaniard. Luis Suarez should rush on to the grid and bite Montezemolo’s bum.
LOL
