2013 - Abu Dhabi F1 @ Yas Marina Circuit

So, with the WDC and WCC already in RedBulls Kitty, the rest of the races are just a formality. A great advantage for those who are driver / Team hunting. Expect Alonso and Kimi to go Hammer and Tongs in the coming races, Or we will have the Vettel juggernaut rolling away victorious further.

Whatever said and done, with close to 70 gear changes per lap, this circuit is amazing when lit-up . Another awesome track.

Re: 2013 - Abu Dhabi F1 @ Yas Marina Circuit

Lotus and Mercedes seems to be very competitive, just like last year.

Kimi wanted to swap back to shorter wheelbase car during Q2 and looked satisfied with it. Lotus would likely be running the long wheelbase car for Grosjean and shorter one for Kimi during the rest of the weekend. Interesting to see which one would perform better.

Considering Kimi was last year's winner here and the reason for that was Hamilton retirement, it would be a tight battle on Sunday. Ferrari might have a tough battle ahead in the WCC fight unless they improve by Sunday.

The number 2s having a field day in qualifying.

A brilliant lap by Webbo! Hope he is lucky tomorrow. I would love to see him on the top podium once before he retire. Also, great job from Massa.

Re: 2013 - Abu Dhabi F1 @ Yas Marina Circuit

Brilliant lap by Webber to claim the POLE position. Vettel tried hard, but couldnt break the time set by Webber.

Very disappointing to see Alonso not even making it to the Q3.

Ferrari is the slowest car of all the front runners.

Raikkonen has been excluded from qualifying after his car failed a floor deflection test. He will be allowed to start from the back row

Sourced from http://www.formula1.com/news/headlin...11/15198.html:
Quote:
“Car number 07 did not comply with Article 3.17.5 of the 2013 FIA Formula One Technical Regulations as the front floor deflected more than 5mm vertically when the load was applied vertically to it at the point which lies 100mm of car centre line on the LHS,” said a technical report by the FIA’s Formula One technical delegate, Jo Bauer.
Basically, the FIA mandates certain rigidity requirements for cars, to ensure that they:
  1. Adhere to safety norms
  2. Do not use flexibility to get an undue aerodynamic advantage

For instance, if you make the floor of the car flexible enough such that under acceleration the floor becomes lower, that confers an aerodynamic benefit.

Last year, there was suspicion that Red Bull's front wings were too flexible resulting in better front-end grip, but all the static load tests applied to it were successful, so nothing came of it.

It's a decision that is difficult to understand as the failure was due to damage sustained on impact with a kerb in T3 in Q1. Lotus was able to show this from the data on board the car. But the stewards decided that damage due to impact is no excuse for failing the test. By this token, anyone who races today with a damaged front wing, for eg:, due to minor contact in the race is in danger of being excluded from race results if they fail some front wing tests.

What makes it more baffling is that Romain had sustained similar damage in Hungary this year and failed the same test. The FIA stewards then decided that the damage was a good enough reason to not pass the test!

Situation is a bit different.

In Hungary, Lotus argued that Romain sustained the damage which was the reason for the failure. They could prove this since an identical car without damage (Kimi's) passed the test.

This weekend, Romain is running the long wheelbase version and Kimi is on the shorter wheelbase version. So they don't have an identical car to prove that it would have passed the test without the damage.

I think it's just enough to show that the part is identical to the one that has passed the test earlier.

Anyway, I don't think the FIA rules mandate that tests should be passed with a damaged element in the car and the stewards have accepted that there is damage to the car.

Please be kind enough to post the link so that others too can view the race.

The above link is indeed working. But shameful of ESPN and Starsports to skip F1 event.

I am watching the race on STAR SPORTS 2 on TATA SKY.

I am really disappointed to watch F1 on SD and not HD. But that is a topic for a different thread anyway.

You can watch the race on Star Sports 2

Kimi is out of the race in the first lap itself. It looked like he did it on purpose. They have shown him going out for a drive in a LC

Well, the World Champion doles out Free Donuts yet again Fantastic race once again for him. Webber added the 100th win for RBR rightfully.

Sad for Kimi, Alonso did not deserve that P5 by any chance, Massa drove a clean race. Hamilton done in again by his Team-mate.

Not to forget Di-Riesta out pacing Hamilton, the Force India's finish within points
